Parker Pen Company
The Parker Pen Company is a manufacturer of luxury writing pens, founded in 1888 by George Safford Parker in Janesville, Wisconsin, United States. In 2011, the Parker factory at Newhaven, East Sussex, England, was closed, and its production transferred to Nantes, France. History George Safford Parker, the founder, had previously been a sales agent for the John Holland Gold Pen Company. He received his first fountain pen related patent in 1889. In 1894, Parker received a patent on his "Lucky Curve" fountain pen feed, which was claimed to draw excess ink back into the pen barrel when the pen was not in use. The company's first successful pen, released in 1899, was the Parker Jointless. The Lucky Curve feed was used in various forms until 1928. Parker is a home rule municipality in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. As a self-declared "town" under the home rule statutes, Parker is the second most populous town in the county; Castle Rock is the most populous (the community of Highlands Ranch, with a population of over 100,000, is an unincorporated CDP). Parker is a city in Collin County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,462 in 2020. History The first settlers arrived in the area that is now Parker in the early 1840s. The town was named after William C. Parker, the son of the area's first known settler, John C. Parker. It was incorporated as a city on March 22, 1969. Parker, Johnson County, Texas
Parker is an unincorporated community in southeastern Johnson County, Texas, United States, located on Texas State Highway 171. History Families had settled in the area as far back as the 1850s, but a community would only form in the 1880s. A post office called Nathan operated from 1887 to 1906. A nondenominational church moved to the community in 1900 and would later transition to a Methodist place of worship. In 1904, the Trinity and Brazos Valley Railway passed through the area, connecting Parker with Cleburne and Hillsboro. Residents of Nathan wanted to change the name to Kennard, after A. D. Kennard, Jr, who donated land in the town. However, they decided against it because there already was a town in Texas named Kennard and instead decided to name it Parker, in honor of the president of the railroad which had grown the town's population to 100 by 1914. Parker is a city located in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is in the extreme northwestern portion of the county. The population was 695 at the 2020 United States census, 2020 census. The city was named for Judge John Parker, a lead surveyor of Lawrenceburg and founder/owner of Parker's Landing, the two villages combined to create Parker. Parker is sometimes referred to as the "Smallest City in the USA". Parker was incorporated as a city on March 1, 1873, by special state legislation in the midst of the northwestern Pennsylvania oil boom. The new municipality was called "Parker" and made up the earlier villages of Parker's Landing (on the Allegheny River) and Lawrenceburg (on the bluff above the river). Parker Dam is a concrete arch-gravity dam that crosses the Colorado River downstream of Hoover Dam. Built between 1934 and 1938 by the Bureau of Reclamation, it is high, of which are below the riverbed (the deep excavation was necessary in order to reach the bedrock on which the foundation of the dam was built), making it the deepest dam in the world. The portion of the dam above the foundation stands tall, making it the only dam in the world that stands more underground than above ground.
