Anton Schulthess-Rechberg
Anton von Schulthess-Rechberg (also known as Anton von Schulthess-Schindler; 14 January 1855 – 7 November 1941) was a Swiss medical doctor and entomologist. Biography He was the son of the banker and railway investor Gustav Anton von Schulthess-Rechberg. He graduated in medicine in 1879 from the University of Zurich and was appointed an assistant physician in Zürich hospitals from 1879. From 1886 to 1898 he was the leading doctor in the Swiss Institute for Epilepsy. He opened a private practice in 1898, from 1915 to 1928 he was president of the Swiss Public Utilities Society (''Société suisse d'utilité publique'') and from 1929 to 1939 he was president of the Swiss Red Cross. As an amateur entomologist he was concerned mainly with the African Hymenoptera Hymenoptera is a large order of insects, comprising the sawflies, wasps, bees, and ants. Over 150,000 living species of Hymenoptera have been described, in addition to over 2,000 extinct ones. Many of the species are ...

Parischnogaster Striatula
''Parischnogaster striatula'' is a species of social hover wasps found in Southeast Asia. Their nests are uniquely shaped, mimic their surroundings and, like the other Stenogastrinae social wasps, lack a nest pedicel. They are also unique in their use of glandular secretion when laying eggs. ''P. striatula'' is also different than typical wasps because the queens are not the only ones who possess reproductive capabilities; other females also have developed ovaries. This wasp is also known for fiercely protecting its nest against enemies, such as ants or other hornets. Taxonomy and phylogeny ''P. striatula'' is under the subfamily Stenogastrinae, sometimes known as hover wasps. While the Stenogastrinae taxonomy and phylogeny are still under study, it is known that ''Parischnogaster'' species are split into two subcategories, with ''P. striatula'' being closely related to '' P. alternata''. Together, these two species make up the striatula group. Description and identification ...

Parischnogaster Nigricans Serrei
''Parischnogaster nigricans serrei'' is a hover wasp subspecies in the family Vespidae, and it is predominantly found in the Java region of Indonesia. Its nest cells are of conical structure, linearly attached to a string-like substratum. The nests are typically found in places open to human interactions, such as gardens, trees, or forests around villages. There is a clear dominance hierarchy within colonies, which often affects the behavioral activities of its members. The wasp’s most common predators are '' Vespa tropica'', also known as the great banded hornet. ''P. nigricans serrei'' defends itself by flying away or giving out alarm calls. Taxonomy and phylogenetics Studies investigating the biology and social behavior of subfamily Stenogastrinae wasps have begun since the early 20th century, but some of their unusual morphological and ethological traits make it hard for them to have a specific systematic allocation in the phylogenetic tree. These wasps also vary a sign ...

Peter Cameron (entomologist)
Peter Cameron (1847 – 1 December 1912 in New Mills, Derbyshire) was an England, English amateur entomologist who specialised in Hymenoptera. An artist, Cameron worked in the dye industry and in Calico (textile), calico printing. He described many new species; his collection, including Type (biology), type material, is now in the Natural History Museum, London, Natural History Museum. He suffered from poor health and lack of employment. Latterly, he lived in New Mills and was supported by scholarships from the Royal Society. He loaned specimens to Jean-Jacques Kieffer, a teacher and Catholic priest in Bitche, Lorraine, who also named species after Cameron. Some of Cameron's taxonomic work is not very well regarded. Upon his death Claude Morley wrote, "Peter Cameron is dead, as was announced by most of the halfpenny papers on December 4th. What can we say of his life? Nothing; for it concerns us in no way. What shall we say of his work? Much, for it is entirely ours, and w ...

Parischnogaster Mellyi
''Parischnogaster mellyi'' is a medium-sized species of a Stenogastrinae, hover wasp in the family Vespidae. It is found in Southeast Asia and is widely spread in Thailand and Malaysia. Its nests feature flexible and dynamic qualities, and they are commonly seen under roofs of houses and huts in rural areas. Hovering and patrolling behaviors are the species’ main defining behavioral features, and such activities are closely linked to its mating patterns. Taxonomy and phylogeny All hover wasp species were placed under one genus, ''Stenogaster'', until 1927, when von Schulthess created the new genus, ''Parischnogaster'', for species populated in Asia. ''Parischnogaster'' was synonymized with ''Holischnogaster'' by Carpenter in 1982, and it is possibly the largest and the least well known genus. ''P. mellyi'' was first found by De Saussure in 1852. Understanding of phylogenetic background for ''P. mellyi'' is of particular importance because “the independence of origin and rang ...

Robert Du Buysson
Robert François du Buysson (Born 6 May 1861 - Broût-Vernet (Allier) - Deceased 16 March 1946 - Saint-Rémy-la-Varenne (Maine-et-Loire)), was a French naturalist. Biography He is the son of botanist :fr:François-Charles du Buysson (1825-1906) and Mathilde de Montaignac (1829-1899) and the brother of entomologist :fr:Henri du Buysson. Having developed a taste for herbariums at a very young age and a keen sense of observation, Robert du Buysson began to study the mosses of his native region rapidly expanding his field of study to lichens and vascular cryptogams. From 1888 to 1893 he published an inventory of vascular cryptogams of Europe in the Scientific Review of Bourbonnais and the Centre of France. In the field of bryology, the name of Robert du Buysson remains attached to two species: '' Orthorichum berthoumieui'', named in honor of Father Berthoumieu with whom he studied the mosses around Saint-Pourçain (Allier), and '' Barbula buyssoni''. Robert du Buysson distin ...
