Paris (The Cure Album)
''Paris'' is a live album recorded by The Cure at Le Zénith de Paris in October 1992, during their ''Wish'' tour. The band announced the album in July 1993 and released it that October. ''Paris'' was released at the same time as '' Show'', which was recorded in the United States. The album features more cult classics like "The Figurehead" and "One Hundred Years" than ''Show'', which is generally more single-friendly. In mid-1996, ''Billboard'' reported that ''Paris'' had sold 95,000 copies in the United States by that point, much less than the 213,000 copies of ''Show'' sold there by the same point. The Cure
The Cure are an English Rock music, rock band formed in Crawley in 1976 by Robert Smith (musician), Robert Smith (vocals, guitar) and Lol Tolhurst (drums). The band's current line-up comprises Smith, Perry Bamonte (guitar and keyboards), Reeves Gabrels (guitar), Simon Gallup (bass), Roger O'Donnell (keyboards), and Jason Cooper (drums). Smith has remained the only constant member throughout numerous line-up changes since the band's formation, though Gallup has been present for all but two of the band's studio albums. ''Seventeen Seconds'' is the second studio album by English rock band the Cure, released on 18 April 1980 by Fiction Records. The album marked the first time frontman Robert Smith co-produced with Mike Hedges. After the departure of original bassist Michael Dempsey, Simon Gallup became an official member along with keyboardist Matthieu Hartley. Simon Gallup
Simon Johnathon Gallup (born 1 June 1960) is an English musician who is best known as bassist for The Cure, which he first joined in 1979 and for which he has played through most of the band's history. Gallup is the second-longest-serving member of the band, after the vocalist and leader Robert Smith. Career Early years Gallup was born in Duxhurst, Surrey, and his family soon moved to Horley. Robert James Smith (born 21 April 1959) is an English musician who is the co-founder, lead vocalist, guitarist, primary songwriter, and only continuous member of the Cure, a post-punk rock band formed in 1976. His guitar-playing style, singing voice, and fashion sense, often sporting a pale complexion, smeared red lipstick, black eye-liner, unkempt wiry black hair, and all-black clothes, were highly influential on the goth subculture that rose to prominence in the 1980s. ''The Head on the Door'' is the sixth studio album by English rock band the Cure. It was released on 30 August 1985 by Fiction Records. "A Letter to Elise" is a song by English rock band the Cure, released as the third and final single from the album ''Wish'' on 5 October 1992. In 2010, ''Pitchfork Media'' ranked it at number 184 on their list of "The Top 200 Tracks of the 1990s". Background "A Letter to Elise" was made public for the first time on MTV's Cure-"Unplugged" show in 1991 and had very different lyrics from the later version to be released as a 7". Letters to Felice by Kafka was a huge influence when Robert Smith wrote the lyrics of the track. The B-side "The Big Hand" was planned as an A-side single early in 1993 but the idea was scrapped, largely due to Boris Williams not wanting the track to appear on the album but having no qualms about it appearing as a B-side (from KROQ radio interview with the band in 1992).
