Paralympic Movement
The International Paralympic Committee (IPC; ) is an international non-profit organisation and the global governing body for the Paralympic Movement. The IPC organizes the Paralympic Games and functions as the international federation for nine sports. Founded on 22 September 1989 in Düsseldorf, then part of West Germany, its mission is to "enable Paralympic athletes to achieve sporting excellence and inspire and excite the world". Furthermore, the IPC aims to promote the Paralympic values and to create sport opportunities for all persons with a disability, from beginner to elite level. The IPC has a democratic constitution and structure and is composed of representatives from 183 National Paralympic Committees (NPCs), four international organizations of sport for the disabled (IOSDs) and five regional organizations. The International Olympic Committee (IOC; , CIO) is the international, non-governmental, sports governing body of the modern Olympic Games. Founded in 1894 by Pierre de Coubertin and Demetrios Vikelas, it is based in Lausanne, Switzerland. The IOC is the authority responsible for organizing the Summer, Winter, and Youth Olympics. Chelsey Gotell
Chelsey Gotell (born February 20, 1986) is a Canadian Paralympic swimmer and 12-time medalist. She has oculocutaneous albinism which causes her to have poor vision. Personal life Gotell was born and raised in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. She loved sport from an early age and at the age of eight began swimming when she joined a local swim club with her friend. She was classified into the S13 swimming classification at 13. At 14, Gotell qualified for her first Paralympic Games. Chelsey attended McMaster University and earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology. Through her five years at McMaster, she was a member of the McMaster Marauders Varsity Swim Team, was nominated rookie of the year in 2005-2006 and was the teams most improved swimmer for the 2008 season. Marianna Davis
Marianna "Muffy" Davis (born December 1, 1972) is an American politician, former Paralympic cyclist, and alpine skier who served as a member of the Idaho House of Representatives for the 26A district from 2018 to 2021. Early life and education Davis was born in Sun Valley, Idaho. She was a top ranking junior skier and was poised to be named to the US ski team when an accident at the age of 16 left her paralyzed from the chest down. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in human biology from Stanford University in 1995. Career Davis has traveled widely and competed in a number of disciplines. Philip Craven
Sir Philip Lee Craven (born 4 July 1950) is an English sports administrator, former Paralympic wheelchair basketball player, swimmer and track and field athlete. Between 2001 and 2017 he was the second president of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). Early life and education Craven was born on 4 July 1951 in Bolton, England. He was educated at Bolton School Boys' Division, where he was a keen swimmer, cricketer and tennis player. In 1966, at the age of 16, he fell during a rock-climbing expedition at Wilton Quarries, Bolton. The accident left him without the use of his legs. He studied geography at the University of Manchester, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in 1972. Andrew George William Parsons (; born 10 February 1977) is a Brazilian sports administrator and journalist. He is the current president of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). In 2018, Parsons became a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Biography Parsons was born in Brazil to Scottish parents. He served as chairperson of the Brazilian Paralympic Committee from 2009 to 2017, chairperson of the Americas Paralympic Committee from 2005 to 2009, and as a member of the Nominating Committee for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games..
