Panasas
VDURA (formerly Panasas) is an American AI and HPC data infrastructure software company, specialized in high-performance solutions for AI and HPC workloads. The rebranding in 2024 marked its shift from hardware to a software-defined storage provider. Headquartered in San Jose, California, with offices in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Boulder, Colorado VDURA is led by its current CEO Ken Claffey. History Companies history dates back to 1999 when Panasas was founded by Garth Gibson, one of the developers of RAID, and the co-author of pNFS. They initially pioneered parallel file systems, creating PanFS, a parallel network-attached storage (NAS) system that supports high-performance computing (HPC) and AI applications. Panasas gained early recognition for its innovative technology, which played a crucial role in HPC environments. The first Panasas products were developed in 2004. On May 7, 2024 Panasas officially became VDURA. Product portfolio VDURA facilitates scaling, metada ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Network File Systems
A clustered file system (CFS) is a file system which is shared by being simultaneously Mount (computing), mounted on multiple Server (computing), servers. There are several approaches to computer cluster, clustering, most of which do not employ a clustered file system (only direct attached storage for each node). Clustered file systems can provide features like location-independent addressing and redundancy which improve reliability or reduce the complexity of the other parts of the cluster. Parallel file systems are a type of clustered file system that spread data across multiple storage nodes, usually for redundancy or performance. Shared-disk file system A shared-disk file system uses a storage area network (SAN) to allow multiple computers to gain direct disk access at the Block (data storage), block level. Access control and translation from file-level operations that applications use to block-level operations used by the SAN must take place on the client node. The mos ... Garth Gibson
__NOTOC__ Garth Alan Gibson is a computer scientist from Carnegie Mellon University. Gibson developed the RAID taxonomy of redundant data storage systems, along with David A. Patterson and Randy Katz. Biography Born in Aurora, Ontario, he holds a Ph.D. and a M.S. in computer science from the University of California, Berkeley, and a B.Math in computer science from the University of Waterloo. He was involved in informed prefetch computing and network-attached secure disks, a precursor to the SCSI object storage device command set. Gibson was the initial director of the Parallel Data Laboratory at Carnegie Mellon University, and founder and chief technology officer for Panasas, a computer data storage hardware and software company. Gibson was the first president and chief executive officer of the Vector Institute. In 2005 he became the 11th awardee of the J.W. Graham Medal, named in honor of Wes Graham an early influential professor of computer science at the University ... Phison
Phison Electronics Corporation () is a Taiwanese public electronics company that primarily designs, manufactures and sells controllers for NAND flash memory chips. These are integrated into flash-based products such as USB flash drives, memory cards, and solid-state drives (SSDs). Phison is a member of the Open NAND Flash Interface Working Group (ONFI), which aims to standardize the hardware interface to NAND flash chips. History Phison was founded in 2000 by Datuk Pua Khein Seng and four others. Phison claims to have produced the earliest single-chip USB flash removable disk, dubbed a "pen drive." In early October 2014, security researchers Adam Caudill and Brandon Wilson publicly released source code to a firmware attack against Phison USB controller ICs. This code implements the BadUSB exploit described in July 2014 at the Black Hat Briefings conference. In August 2019, Phison announced that they would be releasing PS-50 series chips, e.g., PS5018-E18, that are design ... Companies Based In Sunnyvale, California
A company, abbreviated as co., is a legal entity representing an association of legal people, whether natural, juridical or a mixture of both, with a specific objective. Company members share a common purpose and unite to achieve specific, declared goals. Over time, companies have evolved to have the following features: "separate legal personality, limited liability, transferable shares, investor ownership, and a managerial hierarchy". The company, as an entity, was created by the state which granted the privilege of incorporation. Companies take various forms, such as: * voluntary associations, which may include nonprofit organizations * business entities, whose aim is to generate sales, revenue, and profit * financial entities and banks * programs or educational institutions A company can be created as a legal person so that the company itself has limited liability as members perform or fail to discharge their duties according to the publicly declared incorporation pu ... Technology Companies Based In The San Francisco Bay Area
Technology is the application of conceptual knowledge to achieve practical goals, especially in a reproducible way. The word ''technology'' can also mean the products resulting from such efforts, including both tangible tools such as utensils or machines, and intangible ones such as software. Technology plays a critical role in science, engineering, and everyday life. Technological advancements have led to significant changes in society. The earliest known technology is the stone tool, used during prehistory, followed by the control of fire—which in turn contributed to the growth of the human brain and the development of language during the Ice Age, according to the cooking hypothesis. The invention of the wheel in the Bronze Age allowed greater travel and the creation of more complex machines. More recent technological inventions, including the printing press, telephone, and the Internet, have lowered barriers to communication and ushered in the knowledge economy. ... High-performance Computing
High-performance computing (HPC) is the use of supercomputers and computer clusters to solve advanced computation problems. Overview HPC integrates systems administration (including network and security knowledge) and parallel programming into a multidisciplinary field that combines digital electronics, computer architecture, system software, programming languages, algorithms and computational techniques. HPC technologies are the tools and systems used to implement and create high performance computing systems. Recently, HPC systems have shifted from supercomputing to computing clusters and grids. Because of the need of networking in clusters and grids, High Performance Computing Technologies are being promoted by the use of a collapsed network backbone, because the collapsed backbone architecture is simple to troubleshoot and upgrades can be applied to a single router as opposed to multiple ones. HPC integrates with data analytics in AI engineering workflows to generate ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |
