Painted Post station is a historic railway station at Painted Post, New York, Painted Post in Steuben County, New York. It was constructed in 1881–1882 as a passenger and freight depot for the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad.''See also:'' It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991 as the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad Station. The depot is used as the Painted Post-Erwin Museum at the Depot, a museum of local history that is operated by the Corning-Painted Post Historical Society. Painted Post, New York
Painted Post is a village in Steuben County, New York. The village is in the town of Erwin, west of the city of Corning. The population was 1,809 at the 2010 census. The name comes from a Seneca carved post found by explorers at the junction of three local rivers. Corning-Painted Post Airport (7N1) is west of the village. The former town of Painted Post was in 1836 renamed the town of Corning. History The Senecas never had a painted post but rather the post that existed in the Painted Post area was not "painted". The plain post had been used as a type of bulletin board and when the white settlers moved into the area they painted it. To paint this post was desecration to the Seneca people.
