Page (Swedish Band)
Page are a Swedish synthpop band. Page are often credited with being the first band to bring synthpop music to Sweden. Their music and band members (particularly Eddie Bengtsson) influenced many subsequent Swedish synthpop acts, including Elegant Machinery, S.P.O.C.K, Sista Mannen På Jorden and KieTheVez. History Formed in 1980 by Eddie Bengtsson and Marina Schiptjenko, soon joined by Anders Eliasson, the band quickly gained underground cult-status releasing many singles such as ''Dansande man'', ''Som skjuten ur en kanon'', ''Blå fötter'' and ''Som en vind''. Though most of their important influential work was released in the 1980s their first album, the self-titled ''Page'', was released in 1991. Page continued releasing music throughout the 90's but is still most fondly remembered in the Swedish synthpop scene for their early singles, especially ''Dansande Man''. Tubeway Army
Tubeway Army were a London-based new wave music, new wave band led by lead singer Gary Numan. Formed at the height of punk rock in 1977, the band gradually changed to an electronic music, electronic sound. They were the first band of the electronic era to have a synthesiser-based number-one hit, with their single "Are 'Friends' Electric?" and its parent album ''Replicas (album), Replicas'' both topping the UK charts in mid-1979. After its release, Numan opted to drop the Tubeway Army name and release music under his own name as he was the sole songwriter, producer and public face of the band, but he retained the musicians from Tubeway Army as his backing band. Dramatis
Dramatis are an English synth-pop band formed in the early 1980s. Chris Payne (musician), Chris Payne (Singing, vocals, Keyboard instrument, keyboards), Russell Bell (guitars, keyboards), Cedric Sharpley (Drum kit, drums), and Denis Haines (keyboards) were all originally members of Gary Numan's Backup band, backing band. They formed Dramatis following Numan's announced (but short-lived) retirement from touring in April 1981. They released seven single (music), singles and one LP album, album before disbanding in 1982. Two of their singles reached the UK Singles Chart: the 1981 single with Numan "Love Needs No Disguise" which reached number 33, and the 1982 single "I Can See Her Now" which reached number 57. Chris Payne (musician)
Christopher John Payne (born February 1, 1957) is a British musician. He is known as a member of Gary Numan's backing-band and the co-writer of Visage's 1981 synthpop hit single " Fade to Grey". Payne plays keyboards and viola and also a number of medieval instruments. He formed the band Dramatis with other members of Numan's backing-band in the early 1980s. Payne has composed music for television and films and formed the band Celtic Legend. He has composed, scored, recorded and conducted his orchestral and choral works in London and Prague. Elegant Machinery
Elegant Machinery is a Swedish synthpop band. Borrowing heavily from Depeche Mode, they are one of few recent bands dedicated to making traditional synthpop music. Along with such bands as Page, S.P.O.C.K, Sista Mannen På Jorden and Kiethevez they define the sound of the Swedish synthpop movement. Heavily influenced by acts like Yazoo, The Human League, Depeche Mode, Rational Youth. Robert Enforsen, Richard Jomshof and Leslie Bayne started the band in 1988 under the name Pole Position. Robert Enforsen joined the band as lead vocalist in 1989, and the band released their first demo, at which point they changed their name to Elegant Machinery, a name derived from the album by DATA, a British synthpop group of the 1980s led by Norwegian Georg Kajanus. Synthpop
Synth-pop (short for synthesizer pop; also called techno-pop; ) is a music genre that first became prominent in the late 1970s and features the synthesizer as the dominant musical instrument. It was prefigured in the 1960s and early 1970s by the use of synthesizers in progressive rock, electronic, art rock, disco, and particularly the Krautrock of bands like Kraftwerk. S.P.O.C.K (aka Star Pilot On Channel K) is a Swedish synthpop band which formed around 1988. Background The band's original lineup was songwriter Eddie Bengtsson (formerly a founding member of Page), Finn Albertsson, and vocalist Alexander Hofman. Over time the members of the band have shifted: Johan Billing was a member of the band from 1994 to 1998, but with the release of ''S.P.O.C.K: 1999'' (in 1999) the band's lineup changed to one with Alexander Hofman (the band's only remaining founding member), Johan Malmgren (former member of Elegant Machinery and Aaron Sutcliffe) and Christer Hermodsson.
