Oxford Centre For Animal Ethics
The Ferrater Mora Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics is an organisation based in Oxford which promotes animal ethics. History The centre was founded in Oxford in 2006 by Andrew Linzey, a member of the Faculty of Theology at the University of Oxford, though the centre is not affiliated with the university. Other founding fellows were Ara Paul Barsam and Mark H. Bernstein. The centre is named after the Catalan philosopher José Ferrater Mora (). The centre held an International Conference on the Relationship between Animal Abuse and Human Violence at Keble College, Oxford, in 2007. Mission The centre promotes ethical concern for animals through academic study and public debate, and aims to create a global association of academics willing to advance the ethical case for animals. José Ferrater Mora
José María Ferrater Mora (; 30 October 1912 – 30 January 1991) was a Spanish philosopher, essayist and writer. He is considered the most prominent Catalan philosopher of the 20th-century and was the author of over 35 books, including a four-volume ''Diccionario de filosofía'' (Dictionary of Philosophy, 1941) and ''Being and Death: An Outline of Integrationist Philosophy'' (1962). Subjects he worked on include ontology, history of philosophy, metaphysics, anthropology, the philosophy of history and culture, epistemology, logic, philosophy of science, and ethics. He also directed several films. Ferrater Mora was known for his inclusion of humans and non-human animals within the same moral sphere, or continuum, arguing that the difference was one of degree, not kind. UPF-Centre For Animal Ethics
The UPF-Centre for Animal Ethics (UPF-CAE) is an animal advocacy think tank based at Pompeu Fabra University. It aims to disseminate and promote non-anthropocentric and non-speciesist ethical perspectives in academia, politics and the media.
