Ottawa City Council
Ottawa City Council () is the governing body of the City of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is composed of 24 city councillors and the mayor. The mayor is elected at large, while each councillor represents wards throughout the city. Council members are elected to four-year terms, with the last election being on October 24, 2022. The council meets at Ottawa City Hall in downtown Ottawa. Much of the council's work is done in the standing committees made up of sub-groups of councillors. The decisions made in these committees are presented to the full council and voted upon. Canadian French
Canadian French (, ) is the French language as it is spoken in Canada. It includes multiple varieties, the most prominent of which is Québécois (Quebec French). Formerly ''Canadian French'' referred solely to Quebec French and the closely related varieties of Ontario (Franco-Ontarian) and Western Canada—in contrast with Acadian French, which is spoken by Acadians in New Brunswick (including the Chiac dialect) and some areas of Nova Scotia (including the dialect St. Marys Bay French), Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland & Labrador (where Newfoundland French is also spoken). Alta Vista Ward
Alta Vista Ward (Ward 18) is a city ward (politics), ward in the city of Ottawa, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada represented on Ottawa City Council. Alta Vista Ward was created prior to the 1966 Ottawa municipal election, 1966 election when Gloucester Ward was split in half due to population growth in the Alta Vista area. Until the 1972 Ottawa municipal election, 1972 elections, the ward was represented by two councillors (then called aldermen). Prior to the 1980 Ottawa municipal election, 1980 election, the Ward was split in half, with the western half remaining as Alta Vista ward and the eastern half became Canterbury Ward. Marty Carr
Martha Carr (born December 15, 1972) is a politician in Ontario, Canada. She is the city councillor for Alta Vista Ward on Ottawa City Council. Background Carr was born in 1972 to parents Russell and Susan, and grew up in Prince Edward County. In grade 5, she moved to Edmonton and would attend the University of Alberta, where she received a Bachelor's in French. She then attended Université Laval where she received a Master's in Linguistics in French. While a student at Laval, she met her husband Christian. She moved to Ottawa in 1999, settling in the Alta Vista area in 2004. Prior to being elected, Carr was a director in the Department of Justice. She also served the president of the Alta Vista Community Association for almost four years. Carr previously worked for the Canada Border Services Agency. Rideau-Jock Ward
Rideau-Jock Ward (Ward 21) is a city ward located in Ottawa, Ontario. Situated in the rural south end of the city, the ward includes rural areas west of the Rideau River and the communities of Manotick, Richmond, North Gower, Munster, Kars, Fallowfield, Ashton and Burritts Rapids as well as the former Goulbourn Township south and west of Stittsville. History The ward was created following the area's amalgamation into Ottawa in 2001, and first contested in 2000. David Brown (Canadian Politician)
David Glendon Brown (born December 5, 1990) is a Canadian politician. He is currently the city councillor for Rideau-Jock Ward on Ottawa City Council. He was first elected in the 2022 Ottawa municipal election. Early life Brown grew up in Richmond, Ontario, attending Stittsville Public School, Richmond Public School, Goulbourn Middle School and South Carleton High School. He graduated from Kemptville College, and then worked as a dairy farmer for around 10 years. He is a past president of the Richmond Agricultural Society. In 2016, Brown began working as an assistant to the ward's previous councillor Scott Moffatt, before deciding to run against him in the 2018 Ottawa municipal election. River Ward or Ward 16 (French: ''Quartier Rivière'') is a municipal ward located in Ottawa, Ontario. It is located in the south central portion of the city, and includes the communities of Carlington, Central Park, Carleton Heights, Mooney's Bay, Riverside Park, and Hunt Club/ Uplands. The ward spans both sides of the Rideau River between Carling Avenue and Hunt Club Road. Prior to amalgamation, this area was part of Mooney's Bay Ward (Ward 8), which existed from 1994 to 2000. Riley Sterling Brockington (born November 13, 1975) is an Ottawa City Councillor for River Ward and former trustee of the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. Personal Brockington was born at the Grace Hospital to parents Bruce and Marilyn Brockington (née Hunt). Brockington grew up in the Riverside Park/Mooney's Bay neighbourhood of Ottawa's River Ward and attended public schools in the community. He attended Brookfield High School where he was the student council co-president in his final year, and graduated in 1994. Gloucester-Southgate Ward (Ward 10) is a city ward located in Ottawa, Ontario. Located in the city's south end, the ward includes Gloucester Glen east of the Rideau River, most of the Ottawa International Airport, CFSU Uplands, Blossom Park, Greenboro, Hunt Club Park, portions of Heron Gate south of Walkley Road, the Ottawa South/Hawthorne Industrial Park and rural areas west of Anderson Road and north of Leitrim. Jessica Emma Bradley (born October 25, 1988) is a Canadian politician. She is currently the city councillor for Gloucester-Southgate Ward on Ottawa City Council. She was first elected in the 2022 Ottawa municipal election. Early life Bradley was born in Brantford, Ontario. She graduated with a political science degree from the University of Western Ontario. In her third year at Western, she studied at the International University in Moscow, studying the Russian Language and Cultural Studies. Downtown Ottawa
Downtown Ottawa is the central area of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is sometimes referred to as the Central Business District and contains Ottawa's financial district. It is bordered by the Ottawa River to the north, the Rideau Canal to the east, Gloucester Street to the south and Bronson Avenue to the west. This area and the residential neighbourhood to the south are also known locally as 'Centretown'. The total population of the area is 5,501 (2021 Census). Characteristics Downtown Ottawa is dominated by government buildings, including Parliament Hill and the Supreme Court of Canada, Supreme Court.
