Oryx And Crake (opera)
''Oryx and Crake'' is an opera by the Danish-German composer Søren Nils Eichberg and German librettist that premiered in 2023. It is based on the novel ''Oryx and Crake'' by Margaret Atwood and is about a boy who is subjected to experiments in genetic engineering. The story is told in Flashback (narrative), flashbacks from a Apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic fiction, post-apocalyptic future where the boy has become the last surviving human. The opera premiered on 18 February 2023 at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden. It was conducted by Albert Horne, directed by Daniela Kerck, featured video projections by Astrid Steiner and starred Benjamin Russell, Samuel Levine, Joel Stambke, :de:Anastasiya Taratorkina, Anastasiya Taratorkina, Christopher Bolduc and Fleuranna Brockway. Søren Nils Eichberg
Søren Nils Eichberg (born 23 July 1973) is a German/Danish classical composer and conductor. Biography Eichberg was born in Stuttgart. He studied piano, composition and orchestra conducting in Copenhagen, Cologne and Berlin. He had his first break-through in 2001 when winning the Queen Elisabeth Music Competition, Queen Elisabeth Competition for Composers in Brussels in 2001. Other awards and honours include the Tanglewood fellowship, the German Konrad-Adenauer Composition Grant and the Composition Stipend of the Ministry of Culture (Denmark), Danish Arts Foundation. In 2010 he was announced as the first composer-in-residence of the Danish National Symphony Orchestra in the orchestra's history, which led to a close collaboration with the orchestra over a period of five years and to premieres and recordings of several large-scale works. Christopher Bolduc (born March 12, 1980) is an American operatic baritone. A national semi-finalist in the 2007 and 2008 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, first prize winner in the 2009 Sullivan Foundation competition and 2011 recipient of a $50,000 grant from the Annenberg Foundation, Bolduc made his Metropolitan Opera debut in 2013 in Nico Muhly's opera ''Two Boys'' and currently sings leading roles in the opera houses of Europe and North America. ''Oryx and Crake'' is a 2003 novel by Canadian author Margaret Atwood.
