Orestes or Orestis () is a Greek name meaning . Orestes in Greek mythology is the son of Clytemnestra and Agamemnon, brother of Electra and Iphigenia. Orest Kiprensky
Orest Adamovich Kiprensky (; – ) was a leading Russian portraitist in the Age of Romanticism. His most familiar work is probably his portrait of Alexander Pushkin (1827), which prompted the poet to remark that "the mirror flatters me." Biography Orest was born in the village of Nezhnovo in the Saint Petersburg Governorate on . He was an illegitimate son of a landowner Alexey Dyakonov, hence his name, derived from ''Kypris'', one of the Greek names for the goddess of love. He was raised in the family of Adam Shvalbe, a serf. Although Kiprensky was born a serf, he was released from the serfdom upon his birth and later his father helped him to enter a boarding school at the Imperial Academy of Arts in Saint Petersburg in 1788 (when Orest was only six years old). Oreste Squinobal (17 December 1942 – 9 September 2004), from Gressoney-Saint-Jean, was an Italian mountain climber, mountain guide of Monte Rosa and ski mountaineer. Together with his brother Arturo he made his first winter ascent of the South Face of Matterhorn (23 December 1971), the first winter ascent of the Peuterey Integral (26 December 1972, together with Yannick Seigneur, Michel Feuillarade, Marc Galy, and Louis Audoubert), and the first winter ascent of the West Face of Matterhorn (11 January 1978, together with Rolando Albertini, Marco Barmasse, Innocenzo Menabreaz, Leo Pession, Augusto Tamone). Orest Zerebko (September 15, 1887 – February 21, 1943) was a Galician-born journalist and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Redberry from 1938 to 1943 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Liberal. Orest Somov
Orest Mikhailovich Somov (; – ) was a Russian romantic writer. He studied at Kharkiv University, where he became an admirer of Romantic literature and Gothic fiction. In 1817 he moved to Saint Petersburg where he continued his literary career. In addition to being a writer and translator, he established himself as a critic, editor and publisher, thus becoming one of the first professional men of letters in the Russian Empire.
