Otago Regional Council
Otago Regional Council (ORC) is the regional council for Otago in the South Island of New Zealand. The council's principal office is Regional House on Stafford Street in Dunedin with 250-275 staff, with smaller offices in Queenstown and Alexandra. They are responsible for sustainably managing Otago’s natural resources of land, air and water on behalf of the community. Property owners pay rates to both the local and regional council (e.g. the Dunedin City Council and Otago Regional Council). In June 2022 the council approved an annual plan of $109 Million dollars for 2022-2023 with an 18% rates rise. Otago regional councillors are elected for three year terms. Orc (Cyrillic: орк, romanised: ''ork''), plural orcs ( Russian and uk, орки), is a pejorative commonly used by many Ukrainians to refer to a Russian soldier participating in the Russian-Ukrainian War and Russian citizens who support the aggression of Russia against Ukraine. The pejorative serves to symbolize inhuman wickedness and brutality of the invaders. It comes from the name of orc, the fictional humanoid monsters from J. R. R. Tolkien's fantasy novel '' The Lord of the Rings''. Ottoman Railway Company
The Ottoman Railway Company, commonly referred to as the İzmir–Aydın Railway ( tr, İzmir-Aydın Demiryolu), is the oldest railway in Anatolia and second oldest railway in the Ottoman Empire. The railway was built by a British company to transport mineral and fruit (primarily figs) from the Aydın plain to the Port of İzmir to be exported. The railway also played an important role in operating commuter rail service throughout southern İzmir. By 1912 the railway was operating 3 commuter routes within the city. The main goal of the ORC was to build a line to Aydın, however once the railway got concessions to extend their mainline, they quickly started to dominate the rail industry in İzmir. The current station consists of a platform and the city's historic Southern Pacific depot that was restored and moved to the site in 2010.
