Battle Of Anzio
The Battle of Anzio was a battle of the Italian Campaign (World War II), Italian Campaign of World War II that commenced January 22, 1944. The battle began with the Allies of World War II, Allied amphibious landing known as Operation Shingle, and ended on June 4, 1944, with the liberation of Rome. The operation was opposed by German and by Italian Italian Social Republic, ''Repubblica Sociale Italiana'' (RSI) forces in the area of Anzio and Nettuno. Allied landings on the Italian mainland began in September 1943, and after slow gains against German resistance, the progress was stopped in December 1943 at the German defensive Gustav Line, south of Rome. The operation was initially commanded by Major General John P. Lucas, of the U.S. Army, commanding VI Corps (United States), U.S. VI Corps with the intent to outflank German forces at the Winter Line and enable an attack on Rome. Operation Buffalo (2–14 July 1967) was an operation of the Vietnam War that took place in the southern half of the Vietnamese Demilitarized Zone, Demilitarized Zone, around Con Thien. Operation 2 July On the morning of 2 July, Alpha and Bravo Companies, 1st Battalion, 9th Marines#Vietnam War, 1st Battalion, 9th Marines made their way up north on Highway 561 and secured a crossroad as their first objective. As they went further north between Gia Binh and An Kha, near a place called "The Market Place" (), they made contact with the elements of the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN) 90th Regiment when sniper fire began to break out. Enemy fire intensified as efforts were made by the 3rd Platoon to suppress it. Tri-directional ambushes had virtually decimated company B. Alpha Company, sent to rescue Company B was ambushed. Synopsis The series is inspired by the true events of British nuclear bomb tests conducted in the 1950s at remote Maralinga, in outback South Australia. It specifically focuses on the four tests codenamed Operation Buffalo and follows Major Leo Carmichael as he deals with various pressures and problems during nuclear weapons testing.
