Once On The Rhine
''Once on the Rhine'' () is a 1952 West German comedy drama film directed by Helmut Weiss and starring Maria Paudler, Jupp Hussels, and Paul Henckels. It was shot at the Wiesbaden Studios in Hesse and location shooting, on location Rüdesheim am Rhein, Rüdesheim and Eltville in the Rhineland. The film's sets were designed by the art director Rudolf Pfenninger. Part of the heimatfilm genre, it takes its name from a popular song. It was distributed by the German branch of the Rank Organisation. Synopsis A widower with three daughters buys a hotel on the banks of the River Rhine. Helmut Weiss
Helmut Weiss (January 25, 1907 – January 13, 1969) was a German actor, screenwriter, and film director. He was notable for directing ''Tell the Truth (film), Tell the Truth'', the first film produced after the Second World War in what was to become West Germany . It was made in Hamburg in the British Zone of Occupation. Much of the film had already been made at the Universum Film AG, UFA studios in Berlin shortly before the arrival of the Red Army, but Weiss dramatically re-shot it. The film was significant in its use of outdoor locations in common with other post-war rubble films. Trude Haefelin (1 July 1914 – 3 October 2008) was a German film and stage actress. Biography Haefelin grew up in Munich-Schwabing as a half-ore after the father had fallen in the First World War. She attended the Lyzeum of the English Miss in Wasserburg am Inn and received acting lessons at the Otto Falckenberg School in Munich. She made her stage debut at the Schauspielhaus Munich at the age of 16. She soon came to Berlin, where she appeared at the Rose Theater, at the theater on Nollendorfplatz, at the Deutsches Theater and at the Schillertheater under Heinrich George. From 1932, Haefelin participated in many film productions in often extensive supporting roles. Albert Peter Adam Florath (7 December 1888, Bielefeld – 11 March 1957, Gaildorf) was a German stage and film actor. Early life and education Born to Joseph Florath, a locksmith, and his wife Matilda, née Burkart, he attended school in Brakel and the Realgymnasium in Paderborn. He embarked on a career as a civil servant in Delbrück, where he was active in the welfare, church and school department and the police administration. River Rhine
The Rhine ( ) is one of the major rivers in Europe. The river begins in the Swiss canton of Graubünden in the southeastern Swiss Alps. It forms part of the Swiss-Liechtenstein border, then part of the Swiss-Austrian border. From Lake Constance downstream, it forms part of the Swiss-German border.
