Once Upon A Time In America (album)
''Once Upon a Time in America'' is the debut studio album by American rapper Smoothe da Hustler. It was released on March 19, 1996, via Profile Records. It was produced by New York City-based producer DR Period, with the exception of the song "Glocks on Cock", which was produced by Kenny Gee. It features guest appearances from Trigga tha Gambler, Kovon and DV Alias Khrist. The album was met with positive reviews, but failed to sell well, only making it to 93 on the ''Billboard'' 200, while faring better on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, peaking at 11. The album produced three singles: "Broken Language" b/w "Hustlin'", "Dollar Bill" b/w "My Brother My Ace" and "Hustler's Theme" b/w "Murdafest". "Broken Language" was alleged to be the inspiration behind Heather Headley's 2002 song "He Is". Damon Smith, (born February 8, 1975) known by his stage name Smoothe Da Hustler, is an American rapper, songwriter, record producer, actor, and entrepreneur. He released his debut LP ''Once Upon a Time in America'' on Profile Records in 1996. He runs an entertainment company, SMG Entertainment, which includes the record label SMG Records. Robert "Bobbito" Garcia (born September 25, 1966), also known as DJ Cucumber Slice and Kool Bob Love, is an American DJ, radio host, author, and member of the Rock Steady Crew. He is known as a former co-host of hip hop radio show ''The Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito Show'', alongside Adrian "Stretch Armstrong" Bartos, from 1990 until 1999. "Freddie's Dead" is a song by Curtis Mayfield. It was the first single from his 1972 soundtrack album for the film '' Super Fly''. The single was released before the ''Super Fly'' album, and before the film was in theaters. The song peaked at #4 on the U.S. ''Billboard Hot 100'' and #2 on the R&B chart. ''Billboard'' ranked it as the No. 82 song for 1972. The song laments the death of Fat Freddie, a character in the film who is run over by a car. Like most of the music from the ''Super Fly'' album, "Freddie's Dead" appears in the film only in an instrumental arrangement, without any lyrics. The song's music is featured prominently in the film's opening sequence and also recurs at several other points. Because of this usage the song was subtitled "Theme from ''Superfly''" on its single release (but not on the album).
