Old Smokey
Old Smokey is a euphemistic name given to the state prison electric chair in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Tennessee. The term has sometimes been used to refer to electric chairs in general, and not the one used in any specific state. New Jersey New Jersey's Old Smokey is on display at the New Jersey State Police Museum. The chair's most notorious target was Richard Hauptmann, the man behind the Lindbergh kidnapping. The chair at the New Jersey State Prison in Trenton, New Jersey, Trenton was used in the electric chair, electrocution of 159 men for capital punishment in New Jersey, starting with Saverio DiGiovanni on December 11, 1907, and ending with Ralph Hudson on January 22, 1963, which also was the final execution carried out in New Jersey. John Morrissey
John Morrissey (February 12, 1831 – May 1, 1878), also known as Old Smoke, was an Irish American politician, bare-knuckle boxing champion, and criminal. He became a bare-knuckle boxer, challenging and defeated "Yankee Sullivan", who was then recognized as the American boxing champion. He became a professional gambler, owning gambling houses in New York City in the 1850s and 1860s. He emerged as a powerful politician and a U.S. Congressman from New York, between 1867 and 1871, backed by Tammany Hall. However, he later fell out with the Tammany Hall political machine and became Democratic State Senator for New York between 1876 and 1878, running as an anti-Tammany candidate. Early life Morrissey was born in Templemore, County Tipperary, Ireland on February 12, 1831. Around 1833 his parents emigrated to the United States and settled in or near Troy, New York. Linda Ann Fredericks (27 September 1950 – 3 May 2023), better known as Linda Lewis, was an English singer, songwriter and musician. She is best known for the singles " Rock-a-Doodle-Doo" (1973) and her version of Betty Everett's " The Shoop Shoop Song" (1975). Her discography includes solo albums, ''Lark'' (1972), '' Not a Little Girl Anymore'' (1975), ''Woman Overboard'' (1977), and the later ''Second Nature'' (1995), which became successful in countries such as Japan. Beaver Valley (Ontario)
The Beaver Valley is a valley in southern Ontario, Canada, at the southern tip of Georgian Bay. The Beaver River (Grey County), Beaver River flows north through the valley, emptying into Georgian Bay in the town of Thornbury, Ontario, Thornbury. In 1938, the comic strip ''The Captain and the Kids'' (Rudolph Dirks' parallel version of his own strip '' The Katzenjammer Kids'') was adapted by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, becoming the studio's first self-produced series of theatrical cartoon short subjects, directed by William Hanna, Bob Allen, and Friz Freleng. The short-lived series was unsuccessful, ending after one year and a total of 15 cartoons. Following that cancellation, Freleng returned to Warner Bros., where he had earlier been an animation director.
