Oklahoma State Auditor And Inspector
The Oklahoma State Auditor and Inspector is an elected Constitutional officer for the U.S. State of Oklahoma. The State Auditor and Inspector is responsible for auditing and prescribing bookkeeping standards of all government agencies and county treasurers within Oklahoma. The office in its current form is a consolidation of the office of State Auditor with that of the office of State Examiner and Inspector, both of which dated back to statehood in 1907. The two positions were combined in 1979 after passage of State Question 510 in 1975. Tom Daxon was the first person to hold the combined office and the first Republican as all previous occupants of either position were Democrats. The 13th State Auditor and Inspector is Cindy Byrd, who began her four-year term in 2019. Oklahoma State Capitol
The Oklahoma State Capitol is the house of government of the U.S. state of Oklahoma. It is the building that houses the Oklahoma Legislature and executive branch offices. It is located along Lincoln Boulevard in Oklahoma City and contains 452,508 square feet of floor area. The present structure includes a dome completed in 2002. Oklahoma's first capital was Guthrie, Oklahoma, but it moved to Oklahoma City in 1910. Construction began on the Oklahoma State Capitol in 1914 and was completed in 1917. Originally, it housed the judicial branch of Oklahoma, but the state's high courts moved most of their operations to the Oklahoma Judicial Center in 2011, leaving only the Supreme Court Hearing Chamber in the capitol building. Gary Jones is a United States businessman and Republican politician from Oklahoma. He is the former Oklahoma State Auditor and Inspector. Personal Jones was born in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, the fifth of seven children. He graduated from Cameron University in 1978 with a Bachelor of Business Administration/Accounting degree. Jones is both a certified public accountant and a certified fraud examiner. While in college, Jones worked for Southwestern Bell. After 10 years Jones left to start his own telecommunications company, which he sold 16 years later. Jones has operated a cow-calf operation for over 30 years in addition to his other ventures. Steve Burrage (born July 7, 1952) is an American politician from Oklahoma and the Chairman of the Oklahoma Tax Commission. Burrage served as Oklahoma State Auditor and Inspector upon his appointment to that post by Governor Brad Henry on July 10, 2008, filling the vacancy created by the resignation of former state auditor Jeff McMahan. Frank Carter (American Politician)
Frank Carter was an American politician who held several key offices in Oklahoma throughout his career. He was first elected Oklahoma State Auditor in 1918, and later served as the Oklahoma Corporation Commissioner in 1922. Carter returned to the position of State Auditor in 1930 and again in 1938. Leo Meyer (October 2, 1873 – February 14, 1964) was a politician in Texas and Oklahoma and was the first Jew elected to statewide public office in Oklahoma. Early years Meyer was born in New York City on October 2, 1873, to recent German immigrant parents. After attending high school in Brooklyn, New York, he moved to Texas at age 16, where he entered the mercantile and cotton business in Bellville, Texas, in 1890. In 1895 he married Margaret Lewis of Nelsonville, Texas, and was becoming active in local politics in Bellville, eventually being elected as mayor in 1895. The 1900 Galveston hurricane destroyed his family's business, so Meyer and his family moved to Sayre, Oklahoma, where he worked as the manager of the Dixie Dry Goods store.
