Ofoto (scanner Software)
Ofoto was an application program that automated the task of scanning images and cleaning up the resulting digital image. Created by Light Source Digital Images, it was first released in 1991 bundled with the Apple OneScanner. The program garnered rave reviews for its high degree of automation; it automatically detected if it was a color image, greyscale or black and white, rotated the image if it was not perfectly aligned on the scanner, detected and corrected Moiré patterns, and performed basic color and contrast adjustments. It was followed by a color version 2.0 with Mac and Windows versions. Version 2.0 was widely bundled with scanners from a number of companies, notably Canon. Development and sales were discontinued on 1 August 1996. The assets of Light Source were purchased by Xrite, and the trademark on Ofoto later expired. An image scanner—often abbreviated to just scanner—is a device that optically scans images, printed text, handwriting or an object and converts it to a digital image. Commonly used in offices are variations of the desktop ''flatbed scanner'' where the document is placed on a glass window for scanning. ''Hand-held scanners'', where the device is moved by hand, have evolved from text scanning "wands" to 3D scanners used for industrial design, reverse engineering, test and measurement, orthotics, gaming and other applications. A digital image is an image composed of picture elements, also known as ''pixels'', each with '' finite'', '' discrete quantities'' of numeric representation for its intensity or gray level that is an output from its two-dimensional functions fed as input by its spatial coordinates denoted with ''x'', ''y'' on the x-axis and y-axis, respectively. Apple's OneScanner was a series of flatbed scanners introduced during the early 1990s. The original OneScanner model was introduced in 1991 to replace the earlier Apple Scanner, offering 8-bit (256 shades) greyscale scanning. It was joined by the Color OneScanner the next year, and a series of updated models followed. The series culminated with the Color OneScanner 1200/30, with a resolution of 600x1200 dpi and 30-bit color scanning. Moiré Pattern
In mathematics, physics, and art, moiré patterns ( , , ) or moiré fringes are large-scale interference patterns that can be produced when an opaque ruled pattern with transparent gaps is overlaid on another similar pattern. For the moiré interference pattern to appear, the two patterns must not be completely identical, but rather displaced, rotated, or have slightly different pitch. Moiré patterns appear in many situations. In printing, the printed pattern of dots can interfere with the image. In television and digital photography, a pattern on an object being photographed can interfere with the shape of the light sensors to generate unwanted artifacts. They are also sometimes created deliberately – in micrometers they are used to amplify the effects of very small movements. The Kodak Gallery was Kodak's consumer online digital photography web site. It featured online photo storage, sharing, viewing on a mobile phone, getting Kodak prints of digital pictures, and creating personalized photo gifts. The service was originally launched in 1999 as Ofoto, and was acquired by Kodak in 2001, renamed Kodak EasyShare Gallery in 2005, and shortly thereafter shortened to Kodak Gallery. At its peak in 2008, it served over 60 million users and billions of images. Subsequent to the bankruptcy of the parent Kodak, Shutterfly placed a stalking horse bid on Kodak Gallery on March 1, 2012, for $23.8 million. Kodak Gallery was shut down on July 2, 2012.
