October League Cup
The October Cup or October League is a one-time football tournament in Egypt that was held in 1974 instead of the canceled Egyptian League. The Egyptian League was canceled as a result of the October War and also as Egypt was hosting the 1974 African Cup of Nations. The only champion was Zamalek. Conditions for organizing the tournament After the outbreak of the October War on the sixth of October 1973, the 1973-74 Egyptian Premier League was suspended after only playing 5 rounds, and in the first half of 1974 an alternative Egyptian football tournament was organized under the name of the October Cup. The October Cup was a single round-robin tournament, the clubs were divided into two groups, and the top two clubs of each group qualified for the championship stage, which included the clubs of Zamalek, Al-Ittihad and Tersana. Egyptian Premier League
The Egyptian Premier League (), also known as the Nile League () for sponsorship reasons, after the addition of title sponsor Nile Developments, is a professional association football league in Egypt and the highest level of the Egyptian football league system. The league comprises 18 teams and operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Egyptian Second Division A. Seasons mostly run from August to May. Unlike most other leagues, games are played on all days of the week. The Egyptian Premier League was founded in 1948, unifying the local leagues that existed previously. Tersana Sporting Club () is an Egyptian sports club based in Meet Okba, Giza, Egypt. It is best known for its professional football team, which plays in the Egyptian Second Division, the second-highest tier in the Egyptian football league system. Tersana's most important accomplishments include winning the Egypt Cup title six times and the Egyptian league title once. Football is the most popular sport in Egypt, many Egyptians gather around to watch various Egyptian clubs and the Egyptian national football team play on an almost daily basis. Zamalek and Al Ahly are amongst the most popular in the country, both of which are based in Cairo. Both teams compete in the Egyptian Premier League, the highest tier of Egyptian football. History The first official football tournament was the Sultan Hussein Cup, which was launched in 1917.
