The Central American Sports Organization (acronym: ORDECA; in Spanish: Organización Deportiva Centroamericana) is an international organization which represents the current 8 National Olympic Committees of the Central American region. It is affiliated with the Pan American Sports Organization. It was established on 15 July 1972. It is recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that approved its creation at the Congress of the XX Olympiad, held in Munich, Germany, in 1972. Central American Games
The Central American Games () are a multi-sport regional championships event, held quadrennial (every 4 years), typically in the first year after Summer Olympics. The Games are open for member federations of the Central American Sports Organization (Spanish: Organización Deportiva Centroamericana) ORDECA in Central American countries. (in Spanish) The Games have had an equivalent to the Olympic Flame, being ignited in Q'umarkaj, one of the ancient cultural Mayan centers located in El Quiché, Guatemala. However, some people and organizations have criticised the games for not including the Mesoamerican ballgame, the oldest ball sport in the continent, on the sports programme. The competition is the second multi-sport event to have the name: the Central American and Caribbean Games began life in 1926 as the Central American Games and had this moniker until it expanded its remit in 1935. Panam Sports
Panam Sports, officially the Pan American Sports Organization (), is an international organization which represents the current 41 National Olympic Committees of the American continents. It is affiliated with the International Olympic Committee and its affiliated bodies, including ANOC, the Association of National Olympic Committees, and serves as the continental association of the American Continents. The organization's flagship event is the quadrennial Pan American Games, held since 1951. The Parapan American Games were inaugurated in 1999 for disabled athletes and are held alongside the able-bodied Pan American Games. Guatemalan Olympic Committee
The Guatemalan Olympic Committee (, abbreviated as COG) is a non-profit organization serving as the National Olympic Committee of Guatemala and a part of the International Olympic Committee and Pan American Sports Organization, PASO. It was formed in 1947 and recognized by the IOC that same year. Suspension On 15 October 2022 the International Olympic Committee officially suspended the National Olympic Committee of Guatemala. As a result of the suspension, any athletes of Guatemala no longer had the ability represent the country and compete under the country's flag/name at the Olympic Games and other international multi-sports events.
