On-U Sound Records
On-U Sound Records is an English record label known for releasing its own unique flavour of dub music since the 1980s. The label was founded by Adrian Sherwood in 1979/1980 and is home to acts such as Tackhead, Dub Syndicate, African Head Charge, Akabu, The London Underground, Little Annie, Creation Rebel, Mark Stewart, Gary Clail (who would have a number of Top 40 hits, like "Human Nature", credited to Gary Clail On-U Sound System), New Age Steppers, Audio Active, Asian Dub Foundation, and the dub collective Singers & Players. Singers & Players were a reggae collective made up of vocalists and musicians associated with Adrian Sherwood's On-U Sound Records. They recorded five albums between 1981 and 1988. Including artists such as Bim Sherman, Style Scott, Don Campbell (musician), Roots Radics, Roydel Johnson, better known as Congo Ashanti Roy from the band The Congos and Ras Michael's Sons of Negus, George Oban, who had previously played with Burning Spear and Aswad, Errol Flabba Holt, Headley Bennett, Jah Woosh, Keith Levene, Steely of Steely & Clevie, Prince Far I and Mikey Dread they were regarded as a dub music supergroup. Asian Dub Foundation (ADF) is an English electronic music band that combines musical styles including rap rock, dub, dancehall, ragga, ReggaeEDM, and South Asian music. The group also includes traditional rock instruments such as electric bass and guitar, which acknowledges a punk rock influence. Their music is known for its dub-inspired basslines, guitar parts inspired by the traditional Indian instrument the sitar, and fast rapping. New Age Steppers were a dub collective from the United Kingdom, formed by producer Adrian Sherwood and featuring members of various prominent 1970s UK post-punk groups, including Ari Up and Viv Albertine of the Slits, Mark Stewart and Bruce Smith of The Pop Group, Keith Levene of Public Image Ltd, John Waddington and Sean Oliver of Rip Rig + Panic, and Vicky Aspinall of The Raincoats. Human Nature (Gary Clail On-U Sound System Song)
"Human Nature" is a song performed and written by English singer and record producer Gary Clail. It is produced by Adrian Sherwood and features Lana Pellay on backing vocals. Released in 1991 by Perfecto and RCA Records as the first single from Clail's second album, ''Emotional Hooligan'' (1991), it was critically acclaimed, being named Single of the Week by ''Melody Maker'' and ''Record Mirror''. The song peaked at number ten on the UK Singles Chart and was also the theme tune to BBC 2's TV-show '' Snub TV''. It was originally intended to use a sample of a speech by Billy Graham on the track, but his representatives refused permission, so the song used portions of the speech re-recorded by Clail. Gary Clail
Gary Clail (born 1959) is an English singer and record producer, and the founder of the Gary Clail Sound System. He was part of On-U Sound Records (and also the On-U Sound System) and led Gary Clail's Tackhead Sound System. They had a big hit in clubs with the 1991 song "Human Nature". Biography Clail worked originally as a roofer, but during the mid- to late 1980s, based in Bristol, he became a warm-up act for On-U gigs. Clail first released a record in 1985. Several 12" singles were issued between 1985 and 1987, before Clail's first LP for Nettwerk, ''Tackhead Tape Time'', a split effort between Clail and Tackhead.
