Numbers (American Band)
Numbers are an American indie rock band from San Francisco, California. Not to be confused with the New York pop band 'Numbers', who recorded in 1979 and 1980. Three of their songs are included on the Sandy McKnight box set ''How I Changed the World'', released in 2010. History The group was formed in 2000 by Indra Dunis (vocals, drums) and two former members of the band Xerobot, Dave Broekema (guitar) and Eric (Rat Tar) Landmark (keyboards).Numbersat Allmusic They issued their debut full-length album in 2002 on Tigerbeat6, and followed with a flurry of small-issue releases, including a split with Erase Errata. After a second album, they signed to Kill Rock Stars, who have released their last two albums. Indra Dunis is now half of the husband/wife duo, Peaking Lights. Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United Kingdom, United States and New Zealand in the early to mid-1980s. Although the term was originally used to describe rock music released through independent record labels, by the 1990s it became more widely associated with the music such bands produced. The sound of indie rock has its origins in the New Zealand Dunedin sound of the Chills, Tall Dwarfs, the Clean and the Verlaines, and early 1980s college rock radio stations who would frequently play jangle pop bands like the Smiths and R.E.M. Tigerbeat6 is a San Francisco and Berlin based independent and (mostly) electronic record label run by Kid606 (Miguel De Pedro). The label is run as a DIY operation and releases a variety of electronic music styles, including noisecore, intelligent dance music, bedroom pop, folktronica, and electronica-driven hip hop. The name reflects De Pedro's obsession with cats, which also comes to light in the catalogue numbers, all of which start with MEOW. It is also a loose reference to the top-selling teen magazine '' Tiger Beat''. The label's first release was in 2000; it has over two hundred releases in total. Erase Errata was a band from San Francisco, California. Kill Rock Stars is an independent record label founded in February 1991 by Slim Moon and Tinuviel Sampson, and based in both Olympia, Washington, and Portland, Oregon. The label has released a variety of work in different genres, but it was originally known for its commitment to underground punk rock bands and the Olympia area music scene. History Sampson and Moon initially started the label because, in Moon's words, "I just wanted to put out my friends' records because nobody was putting out my friends' records. Peaking Lights
Peaking Lights are a husband-and-wife music duo who met in San Francisco in 2006 and moved to Spring Green, Wisconsin in December 2007 where they lived until 2009. The couple then moved to Madison, Wisconsin, where they stayed until their return to the West Coast of the United States, West Coast in 2011 to live in Los Angeles. Currently they are based in Amsterdam. Peaking Lights' music has been described as psychedelic pop. The band formed in 2008, performing live in order to fund a road trip to Texas, at which point they self-released the CD-R ''Clearvoiant'' (later released on cassette via Night People). The couple's son Mikko contributed vocals to their third album, ''Lucifer''. In 2013 their second son Marlon was born. Troubleman Unlimited Records was a record label specializing in indie rock and similar genres. Founded in 1993, the label was based in Bayonne, New Jersey and owned by Mike Simonetti. History The label started as an offshoot of a fanzine called "Wanna Communicate?", releasing 7" singles. The label grew significantly in the 2000s, releasing full-length albums by many groups who are regularly reviewed in media outlets like ''Spin'' and Pitchfork. The label focused on noise rock, including releases from Black Dice, Wolf Eyes and Hair Police. Troubleman Unlimited was named "Best Label" by ''New York Magazine'' in 2005.
