William George Torr
William George Torr MA, BCL, LLD (29 March 1853 – 13 September 1939), often referred to as "Old Oxford", was a religious educator in South Australia. History William G. Torr was a son of John Torr (c. 1815 – 14 February 1884) of Tavistock, Devon, who with his wife Ann Montrose Torr, née Green, and family emigrated to Burra, South Australia, arriving on the ''Hooghly'' in 1855. Chiton
Chitons () are marine molluscs of varying size in the class Polyplacophora (), formerly known as Amphineura. About 940 extant and 430 fossil species are recognized. They are also sometimes known as gumboots or sea cradles or coat-of-mail shells or suck-rocks, or more formally as loricates, polyplacophorans, and occasionally as polyplacophores. Chitons have a shell composed of eight separate shell plates or valves. These plates overlap slightly at the front and back edges, and yet articulate well with one another. Because of this, the shell provides protection at the same time as permitting the chiton to flex upward when needed for locomotion over uneven surfaces, and even allows the animal to curl up into a ball when dislodged from rocks. The shell plates are encircled by a skirt known as a girdle. Habitat Chitons live worldwide, from cold waters through to the tropics. Acanthochitonidae
Acanthochitonidae is a family of chitons, marine molluscs in the class Polyplacophora. Description These small to large chitons are characterised by a broad girdle with erect tufts of up to ten large bristles. The coarsely granular valves of the shell are partially overlapped by the girdle. This girdle is all covered by coarse spines. The articulating flange, or ''articulamentum'', is well developed. The margin of the cephalic plate has about five slits. The lateral'' insertion plates'' all have a single notch.
