North Greenwood Library
The North Greenwood Library is a public library that is part of the Clearwater Library System which, in turn, is part of the Pinellas Public Library Cooperative. Located at 905 N Martin Luther King Jr. Ave, its current Branch Manager is Christa Smith. Services The North Greenwood Library's patrons can check out a variety of materials including books, magazines, DVDs, Blu-rays, video games, and a ukulele kit. There is a computer lab with free internet access and free Wi-Fi throughout the library. For non library members, there are two 15 minute express computers. The library offers paid copy and scanning services. It does not have a fax machine. The library has one community room that is used for programs and can be reserved through the online calendar. The newly renovated children's area has Lego tables and coloring areas as well as coloring materials. There is a high definition television that kids can use to watch G or PG rated DVDs and Blu-rays with librarian permission. Also ... Clearwater Public Library System
The Clearwater Public Library System (CPLS) is a public library system with five branches that provides service to the citizens of Clearwater, Florida and Pinellas County. The library system was founded in 1911. It is a member of the Pinellas Public Library Cooperative. History Prior to the opening of the free public library system in 1916, there was the Clearwater Library Association (which was a subscription library) which was founded in 1911. Over the next few years, talks began for the planning of a free public library. Carnegie granted $10,000 for the construction of the first public library. A special tax was used to purchase the site and to fund the maintenance of the building, which would be located on Osceola and Sunset. The building was designed by architect F.J. Pinellas County (, ) is a county located on the west central coast of the U.S. state of Florida. As of the 2020 census, the population was 959,107. Libby is a mobile app that supports users in accessing library services. It is a product of OverDrive, Inc. In March 2023, OverDrive, Inc. announced it would sunset the legacy OverDrive mobile app on May 1, 2023, having already requested that library systems delete references to the legacy app directing public, academic and corporate libraries and its users to its newer Libby app. Libby mobile app The Libby mobile app requests users's library card. With the library card, Libby connects to the user's account at the library and provides support in checking out books. The intent is improved service and ease of accessing the library instead of using the library's own website. Hoopla (stylized as hoopla) is a web and mobile (Android/ iOS) library media streaming platform launched in 2010 for audio books, comics, e-books, movies, music, and TV. Patrons of a library that supports Hoopla have access to its collection of digital media. Hoopla Digital is a division of Midwest Tape. Business model Hoopla is free-of-charge for patrons of participating libraries. The content is paid for by library systems, using a "per circulation transaction model". Christine Wigfall Morris
Christine Wigfall Morris (March 24, 1922 December 7, 2014) was an American librarian. She was the first African American to become a librarian in Clearwater, Florida. She was known for inspiring a whole generation of local children to read. Career In 1949, Morris was employed by the city of Clearwater, Florida, to work at its main library, making her the first African American to work as a librarian in that municipality. Before being hired, she had never set foot inside a library due to the segregation laws of that time. Soon afterwards, she became the director of the "Negro Library", which opened in 1950. A local resident, Horace Carson, had convinced the City Commission to fund the new library, after which he asked Morris to work there. As director of the newly founded library, Morris undertook all tasks, including storytelling and even sweeping.
