Norlys, officially known as Norlys Holding A/S, is a Danish holding company owned by Norlys a.m.b.a. Its operations span the energy and telecommunications sectors. The company serves over 1.7 million customers and employs approximately 4,600 people. Norlys owns the fiber infrastructure company Norlys Fibernet and the electricity grid company N1. History Norlys was established in 2020 through the merger of two telecom and energy companies, Eniig and SE, with Niels Duedahl as the CEO at the time. In March 2022, Norlys sold 35% of its fiber network division to a French-Dutch investor consortium. In April 2023, Norlys reached a preliminary agreement to acquire Telia Company, Telia’s Danish business for approximately DKK 6 billion. Internet In Denmark
In an international context Denmark is viewed as a somewhat peculiar country when it comes to internet access. The former state owned telephone company TDC owns the entire last mile infrastructure in terms of copper telephone lines and the vast majority of the coaxial cable infrastructure as well. Even though the Danish telecommunications infrastructure is very heavily dominated by one company, Danish internet customers still enjoy fair prices and a wide availability of different next generation access internet connections in comparison with most other EU countries. Furthermore, TDCs de facto monopoly on last mile infrastructure has come under attack. Digital Terrestrial Television In Denmark
Digital terrestrial television in Denmark was technically launched in March 2006 after some years of public trials. The official launch was at midnight on 1 November 2009, when analogue broadcasts ceased nationwide. As of June 2020, five national Multiplex (TV), multiplexes are available. MUX 1 is owned by DR (broadcaster), DR but operated by Cibicom A/S. They broadcast free-to-air channels only. MUX 2 - 5 are owned and operated by Norlys broadcasting encrypted pay-TV only. DR (), officially the Danish Broadcasting Corporation in English, is a Danish public-service radio and television broadcasting company. Founded in 1925 as a public-service organization, it is Denmark's oldest and largest electronic media enterprise.
