Noreen Fraser Foundation
The Noreen Fraser Foundation (NFF) was a national, non-profit, philanthropic organization based in Los Angeles. Its mission was to raise funds for breakthrough research that advances precision medicine for the prevention and treatment of women's cancers. Their hope was that the cancer will become a manageable disease that patients will live with and not die from, until it ceases to exist. The Noreen Fraser Foundation was founded in 2006 by producer Noreen Fraser. NFF was involved in numerous successful fundraising campaigns, including Stand Up To Cancer and MenForWomenNow.com. In 2016, the NFF closed, replaced by the Noreen Fraser Fund at UCLA's Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center. Noreen's Story Noreen Fraser was diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer in 2001. Stand Up To Cancer
Stand Up to Cancer (SU2C) is a charitable program of the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF). SU2C aims to raise significant funds for translational cancer research through online and televised efforts. Central to the program is a telethon that was first televised by four major broadcast networks ( ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox) in over 170 countries on September 5, 2008. SU2C raised over $100 million after that evening's broadcast. Funds collected by Stand Up to Cancer are then distributed by the American Association for Cancer Research. Cancer Staging
Cancer staging is the process of determining the extent to which a cancer has developed by growing and spreading. Contemporary practice is to assign a number from I to IV to a cancer, with I being an isolated cancer and IV being a cancer that has spread to the limit of what the assessment measures. The stage generally takes into account the size of a tumor, whether it has invaded adjacent organs, how many regional (nearby) lymph nodes it has spread to (if any), and whether it has appeared in more distant locations ( metastasized). The staging system is not applicable to astrocytoma, which is instead expressed as "grade I–IV". Breast Cancer
Breast cancer is cancer that develops from breast tissue. Signs of breast cancer may include a lump in the breast, a change in breast shape, dimpling of the skin, milk rejection, fluid coming from the nipple, a newly inverted nipple, or a red or scaly patch of skin. In those with distant spread of the disease, there may be bone pain, swollen lymph nodes, shortness of breath, or yellow skin. ''Home'', also referred to as ''The Home Show'', is a daytime informational talk show which aired on ABC from 1988 to 1994. The program was co-hosted by Robb Weller and Sandy Hill during the first season. Gary Collins hosted the show for the remainder of its run. Co-hosts included Cristina Ferrare, Dana Fleming, Beth Ruyak and Sarah Purcell. Decorating and craft segments were frequently presented by Hanala Sagal aka Suzan Stadner, Fitness Expert and Sally Marshall, Dian Thomas, Carol Duvall and Kitty Bartholomew. Dennis Joseph Slamon (born August 6, 1948), is an American oncologist and chief of the division of Hematology-Oncology at UCLA. He is best known for his work identifying the HER2/neu oncogene that is amplified in 25-33% of breast cancer patients and the resulting treatment trastuzumab. Slamon is the son of a West Virginia coal miner. He attended Washington & Jefferson College for its pre-med program. Olufunmilayo I. Olopade, O.O.N.(born 1957 Nigeria) is a hematology oncologist, Associate Dean for Global Health and Walter L.
