Nordkapp-class Offshore Patrol Vessel
The ''Nordkapp'' class is a Norwegian Coast Guard ship class built in the 1980s, and used for rescue, fishery inspection, research purposes and general EEZ patrol in Norwegian waters until the early 2020s. It is a class of ships purpose-built for the Norwegian Coast Guard with a secondary role as wartime naval escorts. The Norwegian Coast Guard is a part of the Royal Norwegian Navy, and has some police authority. In June 2018 it was announced that the Vard Group, a subsidiary of Fincantieri, would build three replacement vessels for NOK 5 billion; delivery of the three new vessels started in 2023 with the final vessel envisaged in 2024. As of November 2023, only ''Nordkapp'' remains operational, having been transferred to the Navy to fulfill a mine warfare command role. The other vessels have been decommissioned. North Cape (Norway)
The North Cape (; ) is a cape (geography), cape on the northern coast of the island of Magerøya in Northern Norway. The cape is in Nordkapp Municipality in Finnmark county, Norway. The European route E69 motorway (highway) has its northern terminus at the North Cape, which makes it the northernmost point in Europe that can be accessed by car and makes the E69 the northernmost public road in Europe. The plateau is a popular tourist attraction. The cape includes a with a large flat plateau on top, where visitors, weather permitting, can watch the midnight sun and views of the Barents Sea to the north. Whales are a widely distributed and diverse group of fully aquatic placental marine mammals. The Norwegian Coast Guard () is a maritime military force which is part of the Royal Norwegian Navy. The coast guard's responsibility are for fisheries inspection, customs enforcement, border control, law enforcement, shipping inspection, environmental protection, and search and rescue.
