Noble Wimberly Jones
Noble Wimberly Jones (c. 1723 – January 9, 1805) was an American physician and statesman from Savannah, Georgia. A leading Georgia patriot in the American Revolution, he served as a delegate to the Continental Congress in 1781 and 1782. Early years Born in Lambeth, England, he immigrated to North America with his parents, who settled in Savannah in 1733, the first group of white settlers of the Province of Georgia. He was often known by his full name to distinguish him from his father, Noble Jones, who became one of the leading officials of the Province of Georgia. As a youth, Jones served in the Georgia Militia under James Oglethorpe, helping to protect the province from Native Americans and the Spanish. Jones accumulated thousands of acres of land, including his estate at Wormsloe, in the young colony. Noble Alfred Villeneuve (August 1, 1938 – February 28, 2018) was a politician in Ontario, Canada. He was a Progressive Conservative member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1983 to 1999, and served as a cabinet minister in the governments of Frank Miller and Mike Harris. Noble Winfield Threewitt (February 24, 1911 – September 17, 2010) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse trainer who conditioned horses for 75 years before retiring on his 96th birthday. The city of Arcadia, California, home to Santa Anita Racetrack, declared February 24, 2007, to be "Noble Threewitt Day." Born in Benton, Illinois, Threewitt grew up in a small town where his father worked as a bookkeeper for a coal company. Introduced to horse racing at county fairgrounds, in his teens he rode in a few races in Kansas City but soon weight gain ended his days as a jockey. In 1932, he embarked on a career as a professional trainer at Agua Caliente Racetrack in Tijuana, Mexico. At age 21, he was the youngest licensed American trainer at that time. Noble Bennet Pickett (January 19, 1801 – February 5, 1884) was an American physician and politician from Massachusetts. Early life Noble Bennet Pickett was born on January 19, 1801, to Sarah (née Giddings) and Bennet Pickett, in North Society, New Fairfield, Connecticut (later called Sherman). He spent 10 years teaching and during that time studied medicine. In 1834, he graduated from Yale Medical School. Career After graduating, Pickett started a practice in North East, Duchess County, New York, but a year later at the request of his friends moved to Great Barrington, Massachusetts, where he remained the rest of his life. In 1839, he purchased a farm called "Hawley Pixley" in North Plain near Van Deusenville, Great Barrington. Noble Kizer
Noble Earl "Nobe" Kizer Sr. (March 11, 1900 – June 13, 1940) was an American football and basketball player, football coach, and college athletics administrator. He served as the head football coach at Purdue University from 1930 to 1936. During his tenure as head coach, he won two Big Ten Conference titles and compiled a record of 42–13–3. Kizer was also the athletic director from 1933 until his death in 1940. From 1922 to 1924, Kizer played right guard at Notre Dame under Knute Rockne. In 1925, he became an assistant coach at Purdue under James Phelan and inherited the head coaching position upon Phelan's departure for the University of Washington. Noble Jones (June 20, 1702 – November 2, 1775), an English-born carpenter, was one of the first settlers of the Province of Georgia in colonial America and one of its leading officials. He was born in Herefordshire. As part of General James Edward Oglethorpe's 42nd (old) Regiment of Foot, he commanded Georgia's Northern Company of Marines during the War of Jenkins' Ear (1739–1748). He was the father of Noble Wimberly Jones, a physician, Speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives, and prominent leader of the Georgia patriots during the American Revolution. Noble David Cook (1941 - April 8, 2024) was a historian and author who studied the history of colonial Peru. He taught at the Florida International University from 1992, and was made a professor emeritus there in 2017. Career Cook earnt a master's degree from University of Florida, then moved to study at the University of Texas at Austin for a PhD in history under . He graduated in 1972. In 1981, Cook published ''Demographic Collapse: Indian Peru, 1520–1620'', in which he modelled population decline in and analyzed the demographics of Peru during Spanish colonialism. He largely wrote the book based on research he conducted in Peru during the 1970s. He taught at University of Bridgeport in Connecticut.
