No Tech For Apartheid
No Tech for Apartheid (NoTA) is an international campaign that works to end Project Nimbus, a contract between Google, Amazon (company), Amazon and Israel. Starting with an anonymous letter written by Google and Amazon workers condemning the deal, the group eventually became a dedicated campaign with an emphasis on pressuring the two tech giants to cancel the project. The workers argue that the relative lack of oversight for the project means it likely will be used for violent purposes. Under the terms of the agreement, it appears that the companies in question are not permitted to deny services to any government entities, meaning that while certain uses might run up against their terms of service, Google and Amazon are not necessarily able to prevent services provided as part of Nimbus from being used for violent acts. Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP; ) is an American Jewish anti-Zionist and left-wing advocacy organization. It is critical of Israel's occupation of the Palestinian territories, and supports the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign against Israel. The group was formed in 1996, and as of 2024 had grown to over 32,000 active dues-paying members. Its chapters at Columbia and George Washington universities were suspended in 2024. A sit-in or sit-down is a form of direct action that involves one or more people occupying an area for a protest, often to promote political, social, or economic change. The protestors gather conspicuously in a space or building, refusing to move unless their demands are met.
