Alcyone And Ceyx
In Greek mythology, Alcyone (or dubiously Halcyone) (; ) and Ceyx (; ) were a wife and husband who incurred the wrath of the god Zeus for their romantic hubris. Etymology Alkyóne comes from alkyón (), which refers to a sea-bird with a mournful song or to a Common kingfisher, kingfisher bird in particular. The meaning(s) of the words is uncertain because ''alkyón'' is considered to be of pre-Greek language, Greek, non-Proto-Indo-European language, Indo-European origin. However, folk etymology related them to the ''háls'' (, "brine, sea, salt") and ''kyéo'' (, "I conceive"). Alkyóne originally is written with a smooth breathing mark, but this false origin beginning with a rough breathing mark (transliterated as the letter H) led to the common misspellings ''halkyón'' () and ''Halkyóne'' (), and thus the name of one of the kingfisher bird genus' in English Halcyon (genus), Halcyon. It is also speculated that Alkyóne is derived from ''alké'' (, "prowess, battle, guard") ...

Greyview
''Greyview'' is the third studio album by American metalcore band Invent Animate. The album was released on March 13, 2020, through Tragic Hero Records and was produced by Randy LeBoeuf. It is the band's last release to be published on this label before the band signed to UNFD in 2021. Critical reception ''KillYourStereo'' gave the album 4 out of 5 and said: "''Greyview'' is a wonderful, sometimes remarkable comeback for Invent Animate, often featuring some of the American band's best work. Track after track, this new album punishes the listener with the crushing, heavyweight of sorrow and depression, felt in both the gut-wrenching lyrical wordplay and the moody prog-metalcore instrumentals. While it may not be the band's most cohesive sounding effort, (like their 2016 album, '' Stillworld''), it nonetheless makes for a new monument in the discography of Invent Animate, cementing its place as an air-tight and very enjoyable, if not occasionally difficult listen. While there isn't ...

Halcyon (dialogue)
''Halcyon'' () is a short dialogue attributed in the manuscripts to both Plato and Lucian Lucian of Samosata (Λουκιανὸς ὁ Σαμοσατεύς, 125 – after 180) was a Hellenized Syrian satirist, rhetorician and pamphleteer who is best known for his characteristic tongue-in-cheek style, with which he frequently ridi ..., but the work is not by either writer. Favorinus, writing in the early second century, attributes it to a certain Leon, as did Nicias of Nicaea. Content In the dialogue, Socrates relates to Chaerephon the ancient myth of Alcyone, Halcyon, a woman who was transformed by the gods into a Halcyon (genus), bird to be able to search the seas for her husband Ceyx, who was lost at sea. Skeptical of the account, Chaerephon questions the possibility that humans can be transformed into birds. In response, Socrates cautions that there are many amazing things unknown or at least not fully understood by humans, and advocates epistemological humility for mo ...

Elinor Glyn
Elinor Glyn ( Sutherland; 17 October 1864 – 23 September 1943) was a British novelist and scriptwriter who specialised in romantic fiction, which was considered scandalous for its time, although her works are relatively tame by modern standards. She popularized the concept of the "'' it girl"'', and had tremendous influence on early 20th-century popular culture and, possibly, on the careers of notable Hollywood stars such as Rudolph Valentino, Gloria Swanson and, especially, Clara Bow. Early life and family background Elinor Sutherland was born on 17 October 1864 in Saint Helier, Jersey, in the Channel Islands. She was the younger daughter of Douglas Sutherland (1838–1865), a civil engineer of Scottish descent, and his wife Elinor Saunders (1841–1937), of an Anglo-French family that had settled in Canada. Her father was said to be related to the Lords Duffus. Anthony Glyn was her grandson. Her father died when she was two months old; her mother returned to the parental ...

Halcyon (Stargate Atlantis Novel)
''Stargate'' literature comprises the novels and short stories in the ''Stargate'' franchise fictional universe (based on either the original ''Stargate'' film or the ''Stargate SG-1'', ''Stargate Atlantis'' and ''Stargate Universe'' television shows) as well as a non-fiction devoted to the franchise. ''Stargate'' literary works follow no strict continuity with the series or each other and are often considered to be non-canon. There is a period of roughly a year between the original idea for a novel and the finalized product, causing problems for authors as they are unaware as to how the franchise will develop and change during the writing process. Despite this, the editors of ''Stargate'' literature function as the medium between the author and the production company. MGM does approve each stage of novel's production, from initial outline to final draft. ''Stargate'' literature centers on the premise of a "Stargate", a ring-shaped alien device that creates a wormhole enabling ...

Halcyon (book)
''Halcyon'' ( ) is the title of a collection of 88 poems by Italian poet Gabriele D'Annunzio, written between 1899 and 1903, and published in 1903. It was intended as the third volume of a seven-book work called ("''Odes to the sky, to the sea, to the earth and to the heroes''") which was subsequently interrupted in 1912 with only four volumes published: ''Maia'', ''Elettra'', ''Halcyon'', and ''Merope''. Origin On July 7, 1899, D'Annunzio wrote to his editor Treves about a long and complex lyrical work he was developing. The seven books of the ''Laudi'' were named after the stars in the Pleiades cluster. Of these, the first three were published in 1903, while ''Merope'' was published in 1912. D'Annunzio began to write poetry again after an extended hiatus (his last lyrical work, ''Poema paradisiaco'' was dated 1893), during which he was leading an eventful life between journeys, political experiences and the newly established sentimental bond with actress Eleonora Duse. ''Hal ...
