''No Cause for Alarm'' was the first album released by Violinski. It became a minor hit on the albums chart, and it contained their only hit single—"Clog Dance", it reached number 17 on the UK singles chart. Another single from the album, "Save Me", failed to chart. The album was re-released in the US under the name ''Whirling Dervish'' in 1982. The cover photography was by Fin Costello. Violinski
Violinski was a rock band formed in 1977 by Electric Light Orchestra violinist Mik Kaminski with former member Mike de Albuquerque on guitar and vocals. In March 1979 the band become a one-hit wonder with their instrumental " Clog Dance", which made Number 17 the UK Singles Chart. History As well as Mik Kaminski on violins and Mike de Albuquerque on guitar and vocals, the band included Barry Dunnery (guitar, formerly with Necromandus), John Hodgson (drums), Paul Mann, John Marcangelo (keyboards) and Iain Whitmore (bass guitar and vocals, formerly with Starry Eyed and Laughing). ''Smash Hits'' was a British music magazine aimed at young adults, originally published by EMAP. It ran from 1978 to 2006, and, after initially appearing monthly, was issued fortnightly during most of that time. The name survived as a brand for a spin-off digital television channel, which was later renamed Box Hits, and website. A digital radio station was also available but closed on 5 August 2013. Reinhold Mack (also known as Mack, born 25 August 1949) is a German record producer and engineer. He is best known for his collaborations with Billy Squier, AC/DC, Queen, the Electric Light Orchestra, Sparks, and Chinaski. Biography Early life and education Mack grew up in Munich, West Germany, and was classically trained on piano, clarinet and acoustic guitar. At the age of fourteen, he discovered the electric guitar, playing in cover bands before being drafted into the West German Army. Mike de Albuquerque (born 24 June 1947, Wimbledon, Surrey) is an English musician, who was a member of the progressive rock band Electric Light Orchestra from 1972 to 1974. Biography In 1971, in partnership with percussionist Frank Ricotti, Albuquerque released the jazz-rock album ''First Wind''. "Clog Dance" was the first single released by Violinski, and became their only charting single. It was written by band member John Marcangelo, inspired by a shop in his town called Brew's which sold clogs. It reached number 17 on the UK Singles Chart and also became a big hit in the Netherlands. Having become a favourite amongst various brass bands, the tune was also used in the 1996 film ''Brassed Off''. "Clog Dance" appeared on various compilation albums, including ''Friends & Relatives ''Friends & Relatives'' is a compilation album released by Eagle Records and Purple Pyramid (US) in 1999. John Marcangelo (born 1950, Whitehaven, Cumberland, England) is an English pianist, drummer and composer of folk rock. Early life He comes from The Valley in Whitehaven in Cumberland. He went to St Begh's Catholic School, (now a junior school) on Coach Road, Whitehaven. He is the son of an Italian barber. He started his life in music with a band called The Invaders, in Cumbria, after leaving school, when earlier intending to go to Carlisle Art College. He later went to Leeds College of Music and trained as a classical musician (pianist and percussionist) where he met the violinist Mik Kaminski. Mik Kaminski
Michael Kaminski (born 2 September 1951) is an English musician. He played violin in the rock band Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) between 1973 and 1980 and toured with the band from 1981 to 1986. He was a member of Electric Light Orchestra Part II from 1991 until its end in 2000, and then The Orchestra from 2000. Early life Kaminski was born in Harrogate, North Riding of Yorkshire, England. He made his first professional performance with the Leeds Orchestra when he was 14. During his time at the Leeds School of Music, he founded the band Cow, together with his friends John Hodgson, who played drums, and John Marcangelo, who played keyboards and other percussion.
