Ng'iya Girls High School
Ng'iya Girls High School is a girls' national school in Ng'iya Township, Siaya County, in Western Kenya. History and operations The school was founded in 1923 as a primary school. In 1953 it became a teacher training college (TTC). In 1962, Ng'iya Girls became a secondary school and admitted its first form one students who sat their “O” level exams in 1965. In 1971, it enrolled the first A-Level science class offering Science and Arts A-Level classes. This continued till 1989, when the A-level system was phased out. The school was identified as a Centre of Excellence in 2010, and officially promoted to a national school in 2012. In 2018, it was closed after it was damaged by students protesting the school's management. Mary Abukutsa-Onyango
Mary Oyiela Abukutsa-Onyango (born 20 February 1959) is a humanitarian and agricultural scientist from Kenya who specializes in olericulture, agronomy, plant physiology. Abukutsa-Onyango is a professor of horticulture at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology whose work focuses on African indigenous food crops. Abukutsa Onyango has studied how African indigenous vegetables can be used to combat malnutrition in Africa while maintaining a secure form of revenue even during more challenging weather and climate. Early life and family Mary Oyiela Abukutsa-Onyango was born on 20 February 1959 in Ematsuli, Kenya. She is the third born in a family of eight children to Enos Abukutsa Masele and Rosebella Amumbwe Abukutsa. Grace Onyango
Grace Monica Akech Onyango (26 June 1924 – 8 March 2023), popularly known as Nya'Bungu (Daughter of the Bush), was a Kenyan politician. She achieved several firsts in post-independence Kenyan politics, as the first female to climb up the ranks of the political system, defying cultural barriers. She was the first Kenyan female mayor, after she replaced Mathias Ondiek as the Mayor of Kisumu in 1965. She was also the first female Member of Parliament in post-independence Kenya after she was elected to represent Kisumu Town Constituency in 1969. In Parliament, Onyango was the first woman to sit in the speaker's chair as temporary deputy speaker, and served as Deputy Speaker from 1979 to 1984. Her political career ended after she lost her parliamentary seat in 1984. Onyango also served as the first female secretary-general of the Luo Union.
