The name refers to an earlier quartet, the Grand Tradition, with the same lead and baritone. The New Tradition Chorus is a mixed voice barbershop chorus based in Northbrook, Illinois, in the Chicago area. Founded in 1982, they have competed at the International Chorus Contest of the Barbershop Harmony Society The Barbershop Harmony Society, legally and historically named the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America, Inc. (SPEBSQSA), is the first of several organizations to promote and preserve barbersho ... 19 times, winning a medal on every attempt until the 2009 competition, where they finished 15th. They have won ten bronze medals, a record eight consecutive silver medals (1993–2000), and the gold medal in 2001. The chorus had all male members until 2022. ''New Tradition'' is the second album by American hard rock supergroup Dark New Day, released on February 28, 2012. It is their third release in six years after '' Black Porch (Acoustic Sessions)'' and their second album since ''Twelve Year Silence''. Originally due to be released in 2006 under the title of "Hail Mary", the band faced troubles due to their contract with Warner, forcing them to shelve the album altogether. In late 2011, the band decided to get back together and release the material through their new record company, Goomba Music. ''New Traditionalists'' is the fourth studio album by American new wave band Devo, released on September 16, 1981 by Warner Bros. Records. The album was recorded over a period of four months between December 1980 and April 1981 at the Power Station in Manhattan, New York City. It features the minor hits " Through Being Cool" and " Beautiful World". Background Following the band's success with " Whip It" and its parent album, ''Freedom of Choice'' (1980), the band's label, Warner Bros., began exerting pressure on the band to "write another 'Whip It'." As the single's success carried on into early 1981, Warner Bros. opted not to issue a follow-up single from the album and instead have Devo focus on completing their next studio album to capitalize on the momentum. However, with ''New Traditionalists'', Devo would opt to craft a darker and less accessible album that explored their concept of " de-evolution" even further.
