New Delhi Assembly constituency, earlier known as New Delhi Constituency, is one of the seventy Delhi assembly constituencies of Delhi in northern India. New Delhi assembly constituency is a part of New Delhi Lok Sabha constituency. This constituency was created by reorganisation by delimitation commission in 2008. Delhi, officially the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi, is a city and a union territory of India containing New Delhi, the capital of India. Sheila Dikshit
Sheila Dikshit () (née Kapoor; 31 March 1938 – 20 July 2019) was an Indian politician. The longest-serving chief minister of Delhi, as well as the longest-serving female chief minister in Indian history, she served for a period of 15 years beginning in 1998. Dikshit led the Indian National Congress party to three consecutive electoral victories in Delhi. Dikshit lost the December 2013 elections of the Delhi Legislative Assembly to the Bharatiya Janata Party, though Aam Aadmi Party formed a minority government with outside support from the INC, with Arvind Kejriwal as the chief minister. The New Delhi district is an administrative district of Delhi in India. Its district headquarters is New Delhi. 2008 Delhi State Assembly Elections
Legislative Assembly elections were held in Delhi on 29 November 2008 to elect 70 members of the Delhi Legislative Assembly. The voter turnout for the election was 57.60% an increase by 4.18% than the previous election in 2003. The Indian National Congress won the election comfortably winning 43 of the 70 seats, while the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party managed to win 23 seats.
