Neuenburg Am Rhein
Neuenburg am Rhein (High Alemannic German, High Alemannic: ''Neiburg am Rhi'') is a town in the district Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald in Baden-Württemberg in southern Germany. Geography Geographical location Neuenburg is elevated on the right bank of the Altrhein on a terrace between the Vosges and the Black Forest, halfway between Freiburg im Breisgau and Basel at the former confluence of the Klemmbach in the Rhine. Here, a path from the Black Forest (Todtnau) to Mulhouse, the current Bundesstraße 378, crosses with the old waterway transport route Rhine. In addition, at the time of the town's founding by the Zähringer, one of the few fords across the Rhine was located here. In the thalweg of the Altrhein lies the state border between Germany and France. Nowadays, the Grand Canal d'Alsace on the French side of the border runs parallel to the Altrhein. High Alemannic German
High Alemannic is a branch of Alemannic German spoken in the westernmost Austrian state of Vorarlberg and in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Intelligibility of these dialects to non-Alemannic speakers tends to be limited. Language area The High Alemannic dialects are spoken in Liechtenstein and in most of German-speaking Switzerland ( Swiss Plateau), except for the Highest Alemannic dialects in the Swiss Alps and for the Low Alemannic ( Basel German) dialect in the North West. Chalampé
Chalampé (; ) is a commune in the Haut-Rhin department in Alsace in north-eastern France, just across the river Rhine from Neuenburg, Germany. The town was founded by soldiers of Marshal Dubourg who in 1709 had beaten the Austrians under Count Claude Florimond de Mercy in the War of the Spanish Succession. It is located in an area called ''Eichwald'' (oak forest) by the otherwise German-speaking population of the Alsace and bears its French name since 1735. Before Johann Gottfried Tulla and others straightened the Rhine in the 19th century, the river had changed its course several times, moving the border. Thus, the village was sometimes considered to be part of Germany. Alsace
