Johan Christian Fabricius
Johann Christian Fabricius (7 January 1745 – 3 March 1808) was a Danish zoologist, specialising in "Insecta", which at that time included all arthropods: insects, arachnids, crustaceans and others. He was a student of Carl Linnaeus, and is considered one of the most important entomologists of the 18th century, having named nearly 10,000 species of animals, and established the basis for the modern insect classification. Biography Johann Christian Fabricius was born on 7 January 1745 at Tønder in the Duchy of Schleswig, where his father was a doctor. He studied at the gymnasium at Altona and entered the University of Copenhagen in 1762. Later the same year he travelled together with his friend and relative Johan Zoëga to Uppsala, where he studied under Carl Linnaeus for two years. On his return, he started work on his , which was finally published in 1775. Throughout this time, he remained dependent on subsidies from his father, who worked as a consultant at Frederiks H ...

Nerioidea Genera
Nerioidea is a Superfamily (zoology), superfamily of Acalyptratae flies. Description As flies, Nerioidea undergo complete metamorphosis with the four life stages of egg, larva, pupa and adult. The adult stage has three body segments (head, thorax and abdomen), three pairs of legs and one pair of wings. Some features that distinguish adult Nerioidea from other flies are: a face that's usually weakly sclerotised (except in Fergusonina, Fergusoninidae), antenna usually porrect or slightly deflexed (elbowed in Tanypezidae), wing veins R2+3 and R4+5 usually convergent, and the wing anal cell usually much smaller than the subcostal cell. Ecology Most Nerioidea are associated with dead and decaying organic matter such as dead wood, rotting fruit and bat dung. On the other hand, Fergusoninidae form Gall, galls in plants of family Myrtaceae, and some Micropezidae have larvae that are predatory or agricultural pests. Notable species * ''Glyphidops flavifrons -'' can be found in t ...

He studied invertebrates and plants extensively, and described many arachnids and insects, notably diptera. In 1852, he published the work ''Systematisches Verzeichniß der im Kaiserthum Österreich vorkommenden Spinnen''. He spent the last half of his life mostly on the island of Ambon. He was visited by the British naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace in 1857. Shortly after Wallace left, he died of consumption on 26 February 1859. Jacques-Marie-Frangile Bigot
Jacques Marie François Bigot (14 October 1818 – 14 April 1893) was a French naturalist and entomologist most noted for his studies of Diptera. He was one of two sons of physician Jacques Bigot (1757–1842) and Marie Françoise Euphrosine (née Luxure-Luxeuil) Bigot (1791–1845). Bigot was born in Paris, France, where he lived all his life, though he had a property in Quincy-sous-Sénart near Brumoy acquired in 1874, and where he died after an attack of influenza. He became a member of the Entomological Society of France in 1844, and his first paper was published in its Annals in 1845, as was most of his later work. Bigot was a prolific author, describing more than 1,500 species of Diptera in more than 400 scientific publications and, like Francis Walker, his work was the subject of much later criticism. R.A. Senior-White, in his 1927 eulogy of Enrico Brunetti, stated about Bigot “The death of Bigot in 1893 had put a term to the endless flow of description, insufficien ...
