Neptunian System
The planet Neptune has 16 known moons, which are named for minor water deities and a water creature in Greek mythology.This is a IAU guideline that will be followed at the naming of every Neptunian moon, although two ( S/2002 N 5 and S/2021 N 1) have yet to receive permanent names. By far the largest of them is Triton, discovered by William Lassell on 10 October 1846, 17 days after the discovery of Neptune itself. Over a century passed before the discovery of the second natural satellite, Nereid, in 1949, and another 40 years passed before Proteus, Neptune's second-largest moon, was discovered in 1989. Triton is unique among moons of planetary mass in that its orbit is retrograde to Neptune's rotation and inclined relative to Neptune's equator, which suggests that it did not form in orbit around Neptune but was instead gravitationally captured by it. Phoebe (moon)
Phoebe ( ) is the most massive irregular satellite, irregular Moons of Saturn, satellite of Saturn with a mean diameter of . It was discovered by William Henry Pickering on 18 March 1899 from photographic plates that had been taken by DeLisle Stewart starting on 16 August 1898 at the Boyden Observatory, Boyden Station of the Carmen Alto Observatory near Arequipa, Peru. It was the first natural satellite to be discovered photographically. Phoebe was the first target encountered upon the arrival of the ''Cassini–Huygens, Cassini'' spacecraft in the Saturn system in 2004, and is thus unusually well-studied for an irregular moon of its size. Thalassa , also known as Neptune IV, is the second-innermost satellite of Neptune. Thalassa was named after sea goddess Thalassa, a daughter of Aether and Hemera from Greek mythology. "Thalassa" is also the Greek word for "sea". Discovery Thalassa was discovered sometime before mid-September 1989 from the images taken by the ''Voyager 2'' probe. It was given the temporary designation S/1989 N 5. The discovery was announced (IAUC 4867) on 29 September 1989, and mentions "25 frames taken over 11 days", implying a discovery date of sometime before 18 September. The rings of Uranus consists of 13 planetary rings. They are intermediate in complexity between the more extensive set around Saturn and the simpler systems around Jupiter and Neptune. The rings of Uranus were discovered on March 10, 1977, by James L. Elliot, Edward W. Dunham, and Jessica Mink. Gerard Peter Kuiper ( ; born Gerrit Pieter Kuiper, ; 7 December 1905 – 23 December 1973) was a Dutch-American astronomer, planetary scientist, selenographer, author and professor.
