Hornsdale Power Reserve
Hornsdale Power Reserve is a 150 MW (194 MWh) grid-connected energy storage system owned by Neoen co-located with the Hornsdale Wind Farm in the Mid North region of South Australia, also owned by Neoen. The original installation in 2017 was the largest lithium-ion battery in the world at 100 MW / 129 MWh. It was expanded in 2020 to 194 MWh at 150 MW. Despite the expansion, it lost that title in August 2020 to the Gateway Energy Storage in California, USA. In Australia the large Victorian Big Battery ( 300 MW / 450 MWh ) began operations in December 2021. During 2017 Tesla, Inc. won the contract and built the Hornsdale Power Reserve, for a capital cost of A$90 million, leading to the colloquial Tesla big battery name. In November 2019, Neoen confirmed that it was increasing capacity by a further 50MW/64.5MWh to a combined 193.5 MWh. The increased storage capacity was installed by March 23, 2020, and the increased power became operational in early Septe ... Goyder South Wind Farm
Goyder South Wind Farm is the first part of Neoen's Goyder Renewables Zone development near Burra, South Australia. The Goyder South Wind Farm will be on the hills south-east of the town of Burra. Early construction works for Stage 1 began in December 2021. The project is owned by Neoen and the construction contract was awarded to a consortium of GE Renewable Energy and Elecnor. Generation capacity of Stage 1 is anticipated to be 412MW. The Government of the Australian Capital Territory has signed a 14-year contract for 100MW of electricity from the first phase of Stage 1, and BHP signed a 70 MW baseload renewables contract for phase 2 to power its Olympic Dam mine. Neoen’s 238.5 MW / 477 MWh Blyth Battery in South Australia will balance power for the mine. Goyder South Stage 1 consists of 75 GE 5.5-158 Cypress wind turbines. It will have a new transmission line to connect to the Robertstown substation. First power came online in April 2024, and the facility is expected to ... Olympic Dam Mine
The Olympic Dam mine is a large poly-metallic underground mine located in South Australia, NNW of Adelaide. It is the fourth largest copper deposit and the largest known single deposit of uranium in the world. Copper is the largest contributor to total revenue, accounting for approximately 70% of the mine's revenue, with the remaining 25% from uranium, and around 5% from silver and gold. BHP has owned and operated the mine since 2005. The mine was previously owned by Western Mining Corporation. Since the 1970s environmentalists, traditional owners and others have campaigned against the mine, largely on the basis of its contribution to the nuclear cycle and its use of underground water. Since it opened in 1988, an extensive underground mine, an integrated metallurgical processing plant and expansive open-air tailings storage facilities have been constructed. The adjacent Olympic Dam mining centre and the nearby township of Roxby Downs service the mine and accommodate its wor ...
