Nektar
Nektar (German for ''nectar'') is an English progressive rock band formed in Hamburg, West Germany in 1969, by guitarist and lead vocalist Roye Albrighton, keyboardist Allan "Taff" Freeman, bassist Derek "Mo" Moore, and drummer Ron Howden. History 1969–1973: Early years The band formed in Hamburg, West Germany in 1969. The founding members were Englishmen Roye Albrighton on guitars and lead vocals, Allan "Taff" Freeman on keyboards, Derek "Mo" Moore on bass, Ron Howden on drums and artists Mick Brockett and Keith Walters on lights and "special effects". Though the concept of non-performing bandmembers was not unprecedented (e.g. lyricist Keith Reid in Procol Harum), it was unusual that a third of Nektar's lineup had no role in performing or writing their music. Throughout their early existence the band's songwriting was credited to all six members on the album sleeves, but BMI records show that the music was written by the four performing members. Brockett did however co-wri ...

In 2002 Bellaphon remastered the album from the original tapes and reissued it on CD with two bonus tracks, which were Radio Promo edits. This was the first time that the correct LP mixes were released on CD. In 2004 ''Remember the Future'' was once again re-released, but this time by the UK's Eclectic Discs/Dream Nebula Recordings. Recycled (album)
''Recycled'' is the sixth album from English progressive rock band Nektar. It is a concept album addressing the band members' concerns about the environment. There are only two songs on the album, one for each side, titled simply "Part One" and "Part Two". "Part One" tells the tale of a nightmarish future in which only "recycled energy" remains, while "Part Two" revolves around more present-day concerns about tourism despoiling untouched wilderness. Reception Allmusic gave the album a mixed retrospective review. They criticized the album as lacking the instrumental prowess, enthusiasm, and band cohesion that the players had shown on Nektar's previous albums. However, they acknowledged that "What does hold strong is Nektar's ability to conjure up a science-fiction atmosphere through the unorthodox application of percussion, guitar, and keyboards." Track listing All songs written and arranged by Nektar. Credits *Roye Albrighton - lead vocals, guitars *Mick Brockett - visual e ...

Journey To The Centre Of The Eye
''Journey to the Centre of the Eye'' is the debut album from English progressive rock band Nektar which came out in November 1971. Though formally divided into 13 tracks, the entire album consists of a single continuous piece of music, with some musical themes that are repeated throughout the work. Because of its narrative nature, it has been called a rock opera and/or dense concept album. The story follows an astronaut who, while on a voyage to Saturn, encounters aliens who take him to their galaxy, where he is suffused with knowledge and wisdom. It is usually interpreted as a commentary on the nuclear arms race. Reception Allmusic's retrospective review stated that "throughout Journey's 13 cuts, Nektar introduced their own sort of instrumental surrealism that radiated from both the vocals and from the intermingling of the haphazard drum and string work." They gave unqualified praise to both the compositions and the performances of each of the individual members. Track listing ...

Space Rock
Space rock is a music genre characterized by loose and lengthy song structures centered on instrumental textures that typically produce a hypnotic, otherworldly sound. It may feature distorted and reverberation-laden guitars, minimal drumming, languid vocals, synthesizers, and lyrical themes of outer space and science fiction. The genre emerged in late 1960s psychedelia and progressive rock bands such as Pink Floyd, Hawkwind, and Gong who explored a "cosmic" sound. Similar sounds were pursued in the early 1970s' West German '' kosmische Musik'' ("cosmic music") scene. Later, the style was taken up in the mid-1980s by Spacemen 3, whose " drone-heavy" sound was avowedly inspired by and intended to accommodate drug use. By the 1990s, space rock developed into shoegaze and post-rock with bands such as the Verve and Flying Saucer Attack. History Origins: 1950s-1960s Humanity's entry into outer space provided ample subject matter for rock and roll and R&B songs from the mi ...
