Nehl Aëlin
The North Eastern Hockey League was a semi-professional ice hockey league from 2003 until 2008. It was created by entrepreneur Jim Cashman, who served as league president. The NEHL was built to focus on giving players that were not quite ready for the ECHL, United Hockey League, and the Central Hockey League a place to play and develop after their Junior and college careers had finished. In the 2003-04 season, nine total players moved up to the "AA" level and remained there and six of those players came from the York IceCats alone. History The League started with four franchises, the York IceCats out of York, Pennsylvania, Jamestown Titans out of Jamestown, New York, Mohawk Valley Comets out of Whitestown, New York and the Poughkeepsie Panthers out of Poughkeepsie, New York. Herb Brooks
Herbert Paul Brooks Jr. (August 5, 1937 – August 11, 2003) was an American ice hockey player and coach (ice hockey), coach. His most notable achievement came in Ice hockey at the 1980 Winter Olympics, 1980 as head coach of the gold medal-winning United States men's national ice hockey team, U.S. Olympic team at Lake Placid, New York, Lake Placid. At the Games, Brooks' United States men's national ice hockey team, American team upset the heavily favored Soviet Union men's national ice hockey team, Soviet team in a match that came to be known as the "Miracle on Ice." The Copper City Chiefs were a low-level professional ice hockey team located in Rome, New York. The team was owned by Wayne Premo. Franchise History The Chiefs joined the NEHL as an expansion team for the 2007-2008 season. When the season was cancelled and the league folded mid-season in January 2008 the Chiefs after playing 8 games had a record of 4 wins and 4 losses. The owners tried to schedule Canadian Sr. teams to complete the remaining the home schedule to no avail. The team was announced as a member of the EPHL on April 22, 2008 but the name was not officially announced until July 2, 2008. Mohawk Valley IceCats
The Norfolk IceCats were a semi-professional hockey team in the North Eastern Hockey League (NEHL) based in Simcoe, Ontario, Canada owned by Jim Cashman. The franchise was previously known as the York IceCats until a move to St. Catharines, Ontario in 2005. However, the league suspended operations for the season after only six games played. For the 2006-07 season the IceCats were known as the Mohawk Valley IceCats, playing in Utica, New York. The IceCats played in the league finals in both the 2003-04 and 2006-07 seasons.
