National Theatre Of Opera And Ballet Of Albania
The National Theatre of Opera and Ballet of Albania ( Albanian: ''Teatri Kombëtar i Operas dhe Baletit - TKOB'') is a theatre in Tirana, Albania. It is the largest theatre in the country and hosts music and dance performances year-round. History The National Opera and Ballet Theatre was founded on 29 November 1953. It first operated within the building of the University of Arts of Albania and subsequently transferred into the Palace of Culture of Tirana building in central Tirana. The theatre helped develop the capital's arts scene since formerly there had been no venue for performances. Since the theatre's inception, groups and orchestras from various countries in the communist bloc came to give performances. The national Song and Dance Ensemble often performs at the national theatre. The Theatre reports to the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports and is financed out of the state budget. Skanderbeg Square
The Skanderbeg Square () is the main plaza in the centre of Tirana, Albania. The square is named after the Albanian national hero Skanderbeg, Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu. The total area is about 40,000 square metres. The Skanderbeg Monument dominates the square. The city plan for Tirana was initially designed by Armando Brasini in 1925 and continued by Florestano Di Fausto in a Neo-Renaissance architecture, Neo-Renaissance style with articulate angular solutions and giant order fascias. Palace Of Culture Of Tirana
The Palace of Culture of Tirana () houses the National Library of Albania as well as the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet. Situated in Skanderbeg Square, it was originally built on the ''Pazari i Vjetër'' () area of Tirana at the behest of Enver Hoxha. The palace has changed little since its original construction in the 1960s. The first stone of the new building was symbolically placed by Nikita Khrushchev in 1959. Construction was completed in 1963. The architecture is very similar to many communist-era social buildings in Eastern Europe. Both the old bazaar and the historic mosque of Mahmud Muhsin Bey Stërmasi were destroyed under the plan, in adherence to Communist Albania's strict state atheism. The Ottoman mosque had been built from 1837 to 1840 and had a tiled roof as well as a striking minaret with a sherefe. Edi Rama (born Edvin Kristaq Rama; 4 July 1964) is an Albanian politician, artist and writer who has been serving as the 33rd and incumbent prime minister of Albania since 2013 and chairman of the Socialist Party of Albania since 2005. He was Ministry of Culture (Albania), Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports from 1998 to 2000. First elected mayor of Tirana in 2000, he was reelected in 2003 and 2007. National Gallery Of Figurative Arts Of Albania
The National Museum of Fine Arts () is a national art museum in Tirana, Albania, under the supervision of the Ministry of Economy, Culture and Innovation. It features the work of well-known Albanian artists such as Kole Idromeno and Sadik Kaceli. In October 2021, the gallery was temporarily closed to allow for significant construction work to take place such as the revamping of the current structure and the building of a new one nearby.
