National Limited (Amtrak Train)
The ''National Limited'' was a passenger train that ran between Kansas City, Missouri, and both New York City and Washington, D.C., Dividing train, splitting in Pennsylvania. Amtrak operated the train from 1971 to 1979. History In 1970, the United States Department of Transportation, Department of Transportation, in its designation of endpoints for the Amtrak system, ordered a train to run between New York, Washington, and St. Louis. The route had been served by the ''Spirit of St. Louis (train), Spirit of St. Louis'', originally run by the Pennsylvania Railroad and later inherited by Penn Central. The route was later amended to run all the way to Kansas City, Missouri, Kansas City, with a connection to the ''Super Chief'' running between Chicago and Los Angeles. Effingham (Amtrak Station)
Effingham station is an Amtrak intercity train station in Effingham, Illinois, United States. The station contains three houses, at the CSX Transportation, CSXT St. Louis Line Subdivision (ex-Pennsylvania Railroad) crossing that once served Amtrak's former ''National Limited (Amtrak train), National Limited'' line between Kansas City, Missouri, Kansas City and either Washington D.C. or New York City until 1979. The Penn Central Transportation Company, commonly abbreviated to Penn Central, was an American class I railroad that operated from 1968 to 1976. Penn Central combined three traditional corporate rivals, the Pennsylvania, New York Central and the New York, New Haven and Hartford railroad, each of which were united by large-scale service into the New York metropolitan area and to a lesser extent New England and Chicago. Baltimore And Ohio Railroad
The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad was the oldest railroads in North America, oldest railroad in the United States and the first steam engine, steam-operated common carrier. Construction of the line began in 1828, and it operated as B&O from 1830 until 1987, when it was merged into the Chessie System. Its lines are today controlled by CSX Transportation. National Limited
The ''National Limited'' was the premier train of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (B&O) on its route between Jersey City, New Jersey, and St. Louis, Missouri, with major station stops in Washington, D.C., and Cincinnati, Ohio. (Buses took passengers from New York City to Hudson River ferries; the travelers would transfer onto trains in Communipaw Terminal in Jersey City.) It operated from 1925 to 1971.
