Early life and background Suggestions that Davis was an American are not now accepted. He was British, born in London of Jewish background, and later became a Christian convert. Missionary work By his late 20s Davis was working for the London Society for Promoting Christianity Among the Jews (LSPCJ). The association with the Society eventually damaged his reputation, according to Moses Margoliouth. Davis chose to side with Margoliouth and Alexander M'Caul in his approach to missionary work, rather than with the alternative views of Charlotte Elizabeth Tonna and Stanislaus Hoga. Davis spent a number of years in Northern Africa, at Tunis, as missionary to the Jews. From 1838 to 1843 he was there for the LSPCJ. He lived first at Douar el Chott (Dawwar ash Shatt) near Tunis. 	Nathan Davis (actor) Nathan Davis (May 22, 1917 – October 15, 2008) was an American film and television actor. He was featured in Holes, Chain Reaction, Flowers in the Attic, Stony Island. Life and career Davis was born in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Romanian-Jewish immigrants, Rose (née Marcus) and Fred Davis. He served in Europe during World War II and performed on the local stage and in radio productions after the war. Davis was also a pharmaceutical sales rep by trade but pursued acting after being fired from his sales job in the late '70s. Davis started acting in the late 1970s. 	Nathan Davis (saxophonist) Nathan Tate Davis (February 15, 1937 – April 8, 2018) was an American jazz multi-instrumentalist who played the tenor saxophone, soprano saxophone, bass clarinet, and flute. He is known for his work with Eric Dolphy, Kenny Clarke, Ray Charles, Slide Hampton and Art Blakey. Career Davis traveled extensively around Europe after World War II and moved to Paris in 1962. He held a Ph.D in Ethnomusicology from Wesleyan University and was a professor of music and director of jazz studies at the University of Pittsburgh from 1969, an academic program that he helped initiate. He was also founder and director of the University of Pittsburgh Annual Jazz Seminar and Concert, the first academic jazz event of its kind in the United States. 	Nathan Davis (gridiron Football) Nathan Michael Davis (born February 6, 1974) is a former American football defensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL) for the Atlanta Falcons and Dallas Cowboys. He also was a member of the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played college football at Indiana University. Early years Davis attended Richmond High School, where he was a two-way player at defensive end and tight end. He became the first editor of the ''Journal of the American Medical Association''. Biography Davis was born near Greene, Chenango County, New York. He lived and worked on the farm until 16 years of age, attending district school in the winter, and studying for six months in Cazenovia Seminary.
