Narrow-gauge Railways In Asia
Asia has many narrow-gauge railways. The railways of Japan (except for shinkansen, high-speed lines), Indonesia (except for High-speed railway in Indonesia, high-speed line) and the Philippines are predominantly narrow gauge. Those in mainland Southeast Asia, which includes Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Myanmar and Malaysia, are predominantly Metre-gauge railway, metre gauge. The proposed Association of Southeast Asian Nations, ASEAN Railway would be standard gauge, standard or dual gauge, using metre- and standard-gauge regional railway networks and linking Singapore (at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula) through Malaysia, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam to China's standard-gauge rail network. Dual Gauge
Dual gauge railroad track has three or four rails, allowing vehicles of two track gauges to run on it. Signalling and sidings are more expensive to install on dual gauge tracks than on two single gauge tracks. Dual gauge is used when there is not enough room for two single tracks or when tracks of two different gauges meet in marshalling yards or train stations. Shiping County () is a county in the Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture in southeastern Yunnan province, China. It is located about from Kunming, the provincial capital. Gebishi Railway
The Gebishi railway (), or Gejiu– Bisezhai–Shiping Railway was a gauge railway that connected Gejiu City and Shiping County with the only existing mainline in China, the Kunming–Hekou railway. Parts of this railway have been removed; the remaining part, which has been regauged to the 1,000 mm gauge, still exists as the long Mengbao (Mengzi–Baoxiu) railway.
