Narendra Babubhai Patel
Narendra Babubhai Patel, Baron Patel, (born 11 May 1938) is a Tanzanian-British obstetrician and cross bench peer, and a former Chancellor of the University of Dundee. Early life Patel was born in Lindi, Tanganyika (now Tanzania), on 11 May 1938, of Indian Gujarati emigrants and studied Medicine at Queen's College, University of St Andrews, (now the University of Dundee) graduating in 1964. He worked for more than thirty years at Dundee's Ninewells Hospital, becoming a consultant obstetrician in 1974. Patel's clinical and academic interests include high risk obstetrics, premature labour, foetal growth retardation, obstetric epidemiology and quality of the standards of health and clinical provision. Career Patel became a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 1969, and a Fellow in 1988. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 1999. ''The Right Honourable'' (abbreviation: ''Rt Hon.'' or variations) is an honorific Style (form of address), style traditionally applied to certain persons and collective bodies in the United Kingdom, the former British Empire and the Commonwealth of Nations. The term is predominantly used today as a style associated with the holding of certain senior public offices in the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, and to a lesser extent, Australia.
