''Nancy Drew... Reporter'' is a 1939 American comedy-mystery film directed by William Clemens (film director), William Clemens and written by Kenneth Gamet. The film stars Bonita Granville as Nancy Drew, John Litel, Frankie Thomas, Mary Lee (actor), Mary Lee, Dick Jones (actor), Dickie Jones and Larry Williams. The film was released by Warner Bros. on February 18, 1939. It is a sequel to ''Nancy Drew... Detective'' (1938) and was followed by ''Nancy Drew... Trouble Shooter'' (1939). Plot Nancy Drew, competing in the local newspaper's amateur reporter contest, attempts to clear a girl named Eula Denning of murder charges with the help of long-suffering Ted and the two brats from next door. Nancy rockets through a car chase, a song fest in a Chinese restaurant, a boxing bout, and a finale of whistling fireworks to catch the real killer. William Clemens (film Director)
William Clemens (September 10, 1905 – April 29, 1980) was an American film director. Born in Saginaw, Michigan, Clemens began his Cinema of the United States, Hollywood career as a film editor in 1931. His first directing project was ''Man Hunt'' in 1936. His major credits include ''On Dress Parade'' with the Dead End Kids, two Perry Mason mysteries (''The Case of the Velvet Claws'' and ''The Case of the Stuttering Bishop''), three films featuring detective Tom Lawrence, a.k.a. "The Falcon," four films based on the Nancy Drew series, and ''Calling Philo Vance'' in 1940. Clemens' final project was ''The Thirteenth Hour'' in 1947. He died in Los Angeles, California in 1980. Leo White (November 10, 1882 – September 20, 1948), Leo Weiss, was a German-born British-American film and stage actor who appeared as a character actor in many Charlie Chaplin films. Biography Born in Germany, White grew up in England where he began his stage career. He was brought to the United States under the aegis of Daniel Frohman, a Broadway producer. He started his film career in 1911 and in 1913 moved to the Essanay Studios. In 1915, he began appearing in Chaplin's comedies and continued through Chaplin's Mutual Film comedies. Jack Mower (September 5, 1890 – January 6, 1965) was an American film actor. He appeared in more than 520 films between 1914 and 1965. He was born in Honolulu and died in Hollywood. Frank Lorimer Mayo (June 28, 1889 – July 9, 1963) was an American actor. He appeared in 310 films between 1911 and 1949. Biography He was born in New York City, the son of actor Frank M.
