NYC (Kieran Hebden And Steve Reid Album)
''NYC'' is an album by Kieran Hebden and Steve Reid. Hebden and Reid had previously collaborated on three studio albums, with ''NYC'' becoming their final release before Reid's death in 2010. Inspiration for the album came from Reid's home city, with the two musicians meeting to record the music over two days in February 2008 at New York's Avatar Studios. The album was released by Domino Records in November 2008. Four Tet
Kieran Miles David Hebden (born September 1977), known as Four Tet, is an English electronic musician. He came to prominence as a member of the post-rock band Fridge before establishing himself as a solo artist with charting and critically acclaimed albums such as '' Rounds'' (2003), '' Everything Ecstatic'' (2005) and '' There Is Love in You'' (2010). In addition to his twelve studio albums as Four Tet, Hebden's work includes a number of improvisational works with jazz drummer Steve Reid and collaborations with Burial and Thom Yorke. Steve Reid
Steve Reid (January 29, 1944 – April 13, 2010) was an American jazz drummer who played with Miles Davis, Ornette Coleman, James Brown, Fela Kuti, Kieran Hebden, and Sun Ra. He worked as a session drummer for Motown. Biography Born in the South Bronx, Reid started drumming at 16. His family moved to Queens, New York, three blocks away from John Coltrane. Before attending Adelphi University in Garden City, New York, he worked as part of the Apollo Theatre House Band and recorded with Martha and the Vandellas under the direction of Quincy Jones. In 1969, Reid refused to register for the draft during the Vietnam War. He was arrested as a conscientious objector and sentenced to a four-year prison sentence at Lewisburg Federal Penitentiary, where he served with Jimmy Hoffa.
