NWS is an Australian television station based in Adelaide, Australia. It is owned-and-operated by the Nine Network. The station callsign, ''NWS'', is an initialism of The NeWs South Australia. History Origins NWS-9 was the first television broadcaster in Adelaide, beginning on 5 September 1959 from their Tynte Street studios. It was owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Limited (a subsidiary of his holding company News Corporation) through ''Southern Television Corporation Ltd'' who also owned city newspaper '' The News''. Popular programs produced in its early days included the live variety shows ''Adelaide Tonight'' and '' Hey Hey It's Saturday'' (on-location specials), science show '' The Curiosity Show'', '' The Country and Western Hour'', and children's shows '' Channel Niners'', '' C'mon Kids'', ''Here's Humphrey'' and ''Pick Your Face''. Hey Hey It's Saturday
''Hey Hey It's Saturday'' is a long-running variety television program on Australian television. It initially ran for 28 years on the Nine Network from 9 October 1971 to 20 November 1999, with a recess in 1978. Its host throughout its entire run was Daryl Somers, who later also became executive producer of the program. The original producer, Gavan Disney, left the program in December 1990 and Somers then formed a production company, Somers Carroll Productions, with comedy writer and on-screen partner Ernie Carroll, the performer of Somers' pink ostrich puppet sidekick Ossie Ostrich. Carroll retired in 1994, and Ossie was no longer featured in the show. On 25 July 2009, the Nine Network announced the show would return for two reunion specials in late 2009 and hinted if they rated strongly, the show could return full-time. WIN Corporation is a private Australian media company, that owns assets including the WIN Television network, Crawford Productions and several local radio stations. The company is based in Wollongong, New South Wales. History Founding The WIN brand began from a sole free-to-air terrestrial television station in Wollongong, WIN-4, owned by Television Wollongong Transmissions (TWT). In 1979, then-owner Rupert Murdoch sold his 76 per cent controlling interest in TWT to ''Oberon Broadcasters'', a private investment group which included Paramount Television programming executive Bruce Gordon. Kevin Parry
Kevin John Parry (1933 – 26 November 2010) was a businessman from Western Australia, most noted for his backing of the Taskforce '87 syndicate which unsuccessfully defended the 1987 America's Cup in Fremantle, Western Australia. The defence cost over $20 million and built and raced three 12-metre class boats: ''Kookaburra I'', ''Kookaburra II'', and '' Kookaburra III''. In his younger years, Parry had been a noted Australian baseball player. ''Pick Your Face'' is an Australia game show created by Banksia Productions for the Nine Network that ran from 1999 until 2003 and rerun on the Disney Channel from 2005 until 2009. It was hosted by Angus Smallwood. Format Round 1 Contestants had to remove items that served as clues from a large fake nose which, when gathered together would make the name of a celebrity. Round 2 – Place the Face (Part 1) Player one would move to the rear of the studio and play a game where they had four celebrity faces (originally three celebrities and the fourth being the player themselves) with the eyes, nose, and mouth each cut out and posted randomly around the outside of the board. It features an anthropomorphic brown bear character (a person in a costume) known as Humphrey B. Bear, and was produced in Adelaide, South Australia.
