NBL Grand Final
The NBL Championship is the annual championship series of the National Basketball League (NBL). The entrants are determined by the victors of the two Semifinals series, who engage in a best-of-five game series to determine the league champion. The winners of the Championship series are awarded the Dr John Raschke Trophy. History Prior to 1986, the NBL Grand Final was decided by a single game. From 2004 until 2009, the series was expanded to a best-of-five games. The first NBL Grand Final was played on 10 June 1979 at the Albert Park Basketball Stadium in Melbourne. The St. Kilda Saints defeated the Canberra Cannons 94-93 to become the inaugural NBL Champions. The Perth Wildcats hold the record for most Grand Final appearances with 15 between 1987 and 2019/20. The National Basketball League (NBL) is a men's Professional sports#Basketball, professional basketball list of basketball leagues, league in Australasia, currently composed of ten teams: nine in Australia and one in New Zealand. Cedric Jackson
Cedric Lamar Jackson (born March 5, 1986) is an American former professional basketball player. He played two years of college basketball for Cleveland State University, where he made a notable game-winning full-court shot against Syracuse and helped the Vikings past Wake Forest in the first round of the 2009 NCAA Tournament. As a pro, Jackson made a name for himself playing for the New Zealand Breakers in the Australian National Basketball League (NBL). Over four seasons with the Breakers, he guided the club to four grand final appearances and three championships. Broadmeadow Basketball Stadium
The Broadmeadow Basketball Stadium, also known as the Newcastle Basketball Stadium, is an indoor basketball stadium located in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia and was the original home of the Newcastle Falcons of the National Basketball League from the origin of the league in 1979 until they moved to the newly built Newcastle Entertainment Centre in 1992. The stadium is currently the home of the Newcastle Basketball Association and can hold approximately 2,200 spectators. On 18 July 1982, the stadium hosted the 1982 NBL Grand Final where the West Adelaide Bearcats defeated the Geelong Supercats 80–74. Geelong United is a NBL1 South club based in Geelong, Geelong, Victoria. Previously known as the Geelong Supercats, the club fields teams in both the Men's and Women's NBL1 South. Apollo Stadium
Apollo Stadium (officially called the Apollo Entertainment Centre) was a multi-purpose indoor arena located at 41 Kingston Avenue, Richmond, South Australia, just 5 minutes from the Adelaide city centre. The stadium had an original seating capacity of 4,000 until the early 1980s when the bench seats were replaced by individual plastic seats giving a reduced seating capacity of 3,000 and an overall capacity of just 3,500. Opened in 1969, the stadium was named for the Apollo Moon landing of the same year. During the mid-late 1980s, an increasing number of international music acts began to bypass Adelaide as Apollo was seen as too small. Nunawading Spectres is a NBL1 South club based in Melbourne, Victoria. The club fields a team in both the Men's and Women's NBL1 South. The club is a division of Melbourne East Basketball Association (MEBA), the major administrative basketball organisation in the City of Whitehorse. Launceston Casino City
Launceston Casino City is a defunct Australian professional basketball team that competed in the National Basketball League (NBL). Formed in 1980, the club was based in Launceston, Tasmania. It lasted only three seasons before folding, but won the NBL championship in 1981. History Launceston Casino City entered the NBL in the 1980 season with a grant from the Tasmanian Government and the support of the developers of the state's second casino. Their inaugural team included Olympian Ian Davies and club president was Gary Carr. In its first season, the team finished ninth in the 12-team competition with nine wins. Elphin Sports Centre
The Elphin Sports Centre (formerly known as Dowling Street Stadium) is an indoor sporting venue located in Launceston, Tasmania. Construction commenced at the centre in 1964 and was opened in August the following year. Launceston Casino City played in the National Basketball League (NBL) between 1980 and 1982. During this time, they played their home games at Dowling Street Stadium. Casino City's 1981 championship banner hung on the wall of the old Dowling St courts for many years until being packed up and forgotten about following renovations. West Adelaide Bearcats is a NBL1 Central club based in Adelaide, South Australia. The club fields both a men's and women's team. The club is a division of the overarching West Adelaide Basketball Club (WABC), the major administrative basketball organisation in Adelaide's western suburbs.
