Majority Leader Of The New York State Senate
The Majority leader of the New York State Senate is elected by the majority of the members of the New York State Senate. The position usually coincides with the title of temporary president of the State Senate, who presides over the session of the State Senate if the Lieutenant Governor of New York, lieutenant governor of New York (who is ex officio president of the State Senate) is absent. The temporary president of the State Senate becomes acting lieutenant governor for the remainder of the unexpired term in case of a vacancy in the office of lieutenant governor, or until a new lieutenant governor is appointed In case of a vacancy in the offices of both the governor and lieutenant governor at the same time, the temporary president of the State Senate becomes Acting Governor. Dean Skelos
Dean George Skelos (born February 16, 1948) is an American former politician from Long Island, New York. A Republican, Skelos served in the New York State Assembly and later represented the Ninth District in the New York State Senate from 1985 through 2015. He served as Senate Majority Leader in 2008 and again from 2011 to 2015. Skelos forfeited his Senate seat when he was convicted on federal corruption charges in 2015. In 2017, his conviction was overturned following the U.S. Supreme Court decision in '' McDonnell v. United States''. His retrial resulted in a second conviction on July 17, 2018. Jacob Sloat Fassett (November 13, 1853 – April 21, 1924) was a businessman, lawyer, and member of the United States House of Representatives from New York. Early life He was born on November 13, 1853, in Elmira, New York, the son of Newton Pomeroy Fassett and Martha Ellen (Sloat) Fassett. He attended the public schools of Elmira and graduated from the University of Rochester in 1875. He studied law at his father's firm, Smith, Robertson & Fassett, was admitted to the bar in 1878 and commenced practice in Elmira. He was District Attorney of Chemung County in 1878 and 1879. Dennis McCarthy (congressman)
Dennis McCarthy (March 19, 1814 – February 14, 1886) was an American manufacturer and politician from New York. Life He was the son of Thomas McCarthy. He attended Valley Academy in Salina and engaged in the manufacturing of salt. In the early 1840s he went into business operating a general store with his brother-in-law Silas Titus. He was a Democratic member of the New York State Assembly (Onondaga Co.) in 1845, and was Mayor of Syracuse, New York, in 1853. He was elected as a Republican to the 40th and 41st United States Congresses, holding office from March 4, 1867, to March 3, 1871. Afterwards he resumed his former business pursuits. Joseph Louis Bruno (April 8, 1929 – October 6, 2020) was an American businessman and Republican politician from upstate New York. Bruno served in the New York State Senate from 1977 to 2008 and was Senate Majority Leader from 1994 to 2008.
